Social Matt

I’ve been taking small steps towards sociality. Today was probably actually the most social day of my life, which is rather sad when you think about it. At any rate, I started the day off by introducing myself to a new accounting transfer student from several states away, Melissa. She actually seemed very excited about me talking to her and went on about how she feels like an outsider, and how I am the greatest guy ever for actually talking to her, so, yeah, not a bad response. She’s cute.

After that I invited myself along to lunch with an accounting acquaintance from previous group projects, Michael. Another accounting student saw us eating together and joined us – this is how becoming social works, I suppose, and why it’s so hard to become social when you’re not; making friends is a bit of an exponential thing. The easiest way to make friends is through other friends. Anyway, that was nice.

I then ended up going downtown and to the university basketball game with Jeroz, who is probably the best friend I’ve made in grad school, though he’s still more of an acquaintance. It is, as you’ve all suggested, a very different sort of interaction. I don’t know that it’s particularly more fulfilling. But drinking and bullshitting in a bar is undoubtedly very different than talking online and different for the sake of different is good sometimes.

On a final note, I’m really torn on the name change. Any sort of nickname doesn’t seem to fit me so well, but I really, really, feel like changing it would put my mind at a little more ease in terms of privacy. Also, you guys have been no help, as the only suggestion from the last entry was “Kate’s Boy” and I’m not so sold on that. Where is your readers’ brilliance when I need it? Hopefully below.

How about “SouthernBoy2154432576534”?

Random noter: can’t come up with a nickname if I don’t know you but southern boy is good start provided you are from the south, what are your hobbies? If you like astronomy you could mix that with your birthdate, Like Mars186 or Apollo186 etc. Are you tall? You could be TooTallApollo etc. Just be creative. This is coming from a girl named Jackie and my nickname is Jax… Good Luck!

Aw, I like Melissa and that you were both stoked to be talking to each other. Cute 🙂 Sounds like an awesome day. They’re always great. Yeah, I’m not sure about the name thing either. Just go for something simple and succinct, like Southern. Steer clear of numbers.

no, i think “southern boy” tends to stereotype you in readers’ minds. i like to keep my diary names short and simple because i’m short and simple. what are you really like, matt? that’s what your name should be.

Maybe just, I Like Accounting. No one would forget that. Or, YouDontKnowMe. Or, SecretSecretPerson. Or, ThisNameHidesAll. You know, something mysterious. MysteriousMatt! Whatever… ~I’ll be

Oh, re: this entry: Way to go!!! ~I’ll be

why not just go back to A.J. Stanson? I liked that name. After all it was what I called you until I got to know you better. 🙂 And good work on the socialness. It isn’t easy, but once you do it it gets better. 😀

You could go with “Mattpie Doodle-ee-doo!”

PS: Talk to Melissa three times a week for two weeks, then ask her out.

Goat man? Farmboy? Ilikemilk? Sexyguy101? Hairytreeonchest? Accounting guy? Halbert? Hahaha, sorry. Okay, back to coming up with more. Umm… Social Lion? (Social butterfly seemed too girly) GoatLover? Kate Lover? HAHA. CPA2000? Igby? The Heartbreak Kid? Social newbie? OH, I like that one. 🙂

Your name should be “Never mind” since you say it ALL THE TIME.

Southern is good. Or maybe cynical something…….. imma have to think on this one.. but i shall return

You should keep talking to Melissa. “She’s cute,” seems to be one of the most positive reactions you’ve had to a girl you’ve recently met. Way better than what you said about Donna upon first speaking to her, and you hung out with her for a pretty good while. I don’t know what you should change your diary name to. I always have a hard time too. Usually I use lyrics or character names.
