Roommate Update

Well, it’s official – I have a roommate. I signed the lease on the previously mentioned house and I can move in whenever I get ready, though that probably won’t be until close to August.

The roommate is named Rebecca and is basically what I would expect from a girl perusing a PhD in adult education who is looking for a student to live with her. She’s 30 years old and seems a little eccentric – it’s hard to say a lot about her as we haven’t exactly interacted much as of yet. I realize I’m taking my chances living with an essentially random person, but at least I got to select one who is literate and reasonably intelligent. And, really, I have to be one of the easiest people in the world to live with, so I don’t expect there to be too many problems.

The only thing I don’t really like about the living situation is that I’m renting in a house that she owns so I feel a bit like we may not have equal rights to everything (though technically we should, being as I’m paying her $450 a month for exactly that). Still, the apartment is furnished with her stuff and I’m going to be a little uneasy about using everything at first – hopefully it’s something I grow accustomed to pretty quickly though.

Meanwhile, as a testament to what people really care about, every single person who I’ve announced to that I have a new female roommate has immediately asked the same question: Is she pretty? Something that’s completely irrelevant! Certainly completely irrelevant to me, as she’s 30 years old, 4 inches taller than me, and likely wants children sooner than later. Really, I expect more from you people.

And, yeah, she is.

To be completely honest, I think it’s better to live with a relative stranger than a good friend, or else you just end up hating each other.

Oooh. Pictures. Want.

I can’t imagine anything more awkward than moving in with a stranger, into a stranger’s house… Unfortunately, I’ll be in the same boat come Augist 2008. Good luck.

I wouldn’t have asked that. I’d ask like the other person in a past entry why it’s surprising that she would be a female grad student who reads a lot. =op But I’m thinking you didn’t mean to word it like that, so much. Glad it worked out! Better a stranger than a friend, it’s true.

I can see how you would find Card’s stuff “blah”… I’m one of those who swear by its brilliance, but to be honest I’ve had to skim a little or…a bunch in some of his books. And reread stuff to make sure I “got” it. I think it’s because he’s Mormon. No, no, I’m absolutely kidding. Mormons are people too. 🙂

4 inches taller than you? Unacceptable! But yes. What [Dying Breed] said. Exactly.

I guess you’re going to completely miss out on having bi-monthly keggers at your place. Too bad. They’re big messes anyway.
