Reviewing 2008

Time is a funny thing. The years seem to pass by so quickly, but at the same time, when I think back on my life at the beginning of 2008 it all seems so long ago. When 2008 started I was beginning my second semester of graduate school, was wildly interested in a girl named Robin, and was madly (and somewhat irrationally) upset with Heather, who was studying abroad in England. A year later and I’ve graduated with my masters degree, started my first job, and lost the said job. Meanwhile, I haven’t talked to Robin in months and never expect to talk to her again, but I did meet and date a girl named Calesha, who I also never expect to talk to again after learning that she has major issues with lying. And I’m now on incredibly good terms with Heather and just took a road trip with her a few weeks ago.

At any rate, I believe that thinking back on the year that’s passed is a healthy thing to do because if nothing else it really puts into perspective how transient people are. The aspects of my life I was obsessing over last year (dating Robin, passing grad school) are so long forgotten now that it seems outright silly. Even the whole Calesha saga (which was barely a month ago) seems like a lifetime ago.

I suppose the exciting thing about looking ahead to 2009 is realizing how unpredictable life is. There is little guessing how the next year will turn out for any of us. So instead of making a list of resolutions, I’m just resolving to be the best person that I can be and to embrace the winding road that life takes me on.

ryn: yes, i did end up going………………….. blech. ovarian cyst ruptured as it turns out.

I don’t know if you’ve read it, but I wrote a similar entry (which was quite long where I did make New Year’s resolutions which I hardly do….), and I agree with you 100%. As you get older, time seems like it goes quickly, and you realize you don’t spend it well. In away, it is the exact same principle with money except for time is more precious than movie. I am realizing the way that I spend my time is very important. It goes as quickly, and I want to make sure I spend it on the important! And…Congrats, my friend! You are becoming way wiser, and this is always a great sign of maturity and growth on the path of becoming a better person that you were last year!
