Job

So, I’m finally starting the much talked about job on Monday. I went in on Wednesday and started filling out forms and such, hopefully I filled them out right, it’s a bit embarrassing having never actually done any of this properly before. They gave me this ridiculous video that apparently trains me on how to answer the phone. I really can’t believe the absurdity of it, I understand the business ideal of systemizing everything, but the video is like 3 hours long! Maybe I actually applied for a secretarial position and didn’t know it – though it’s fine by me as long as I get my 50K a year.

My whole wardrobe pretty much has to undergo an overhaul – at the very least I have to wear “business casual” which is already nicer than I ever dressed to go to class. Have to wear tie and jacket whenever I’m visiting clients and during tax season. Probably need to buy some new clothes, though I have plenty of old hand-me-downs from an uncle that suit me just fine. Have a feeling they may not exactly be up with the latest fashion though, I really have no clue, I don’t follow shit like that. Hopefully men’s fashion never changes, I’ve heard that said before.

Sometimes, I really wonder what the fuck I think I’m doing, it’s sorta depressing entering this adult business world when I am still such a kid in reality, if not in age. At any rate, they’re tossing me right into the fire – I have to be there at 7:00 AM on Monday and then travel to help audit a bank about an hour away. I wonder how long I can fake my way through this stuff.

Fashion tip: no pink ties. I don’t care of they’re trendy, I don’t care if a lot of girls claim to like them, they look ridiculous on 99.9999% of men.

Men’s fashion really doesn’t change that much, at least not business/business casual men’s fashion. I do agree with the pink tie comment, but I don’t think a pink tie really classifies as business casual anyway. ♥ Andrea

Maybe you should have done some sort of job thing before you got into this job/career business…then again what do I know, since I’ve been in retail for four years but within the past six months have gotten four raises and am about to be promoted to ASM training?? Kidding. Call me when you can’t make it past hump day. : ) ~I’ll be

If you need fashion advice, just ask your favo(u)rite fashionable person in the world. 😉 As for the job– first days are always filled with mistakes. Just know that everyone you’re working with KNOWS it’s your first day, and your boss (the only one that really matters) is fully aware that this is your first job. Ever. And that you’re straight out of school. Relax, Matt. You’ll do awesome.

Do us all a favor and post pictures of you dressed for work one day! My best advice for looking the part, make sure your well groomed…clean shaven/neat haircut. It really makes a difference.

You can do it. And, it’s true, first days are always intimidating and awkward. But you’ll settle in fine.

you’ll be fine. it’s normal to feel this way on the first job. 🙂 and yeah, for the most part men’s fashion doesn’t change much. they’ll insert a few trendy things here and there but nothing you need to worry about.

You’re not faking, you’ve been all trained and shit. You’ll be fine. Remember us paupers when you’re rich, eh?!
