Cheap Vacation

So, I never actually got around to writing about my cruise experience on here – it was pretty awesome. It’s actually a remarkably cheap vacation for all that you get to do. Plus, it’s kinda amazing to have the opportunity to go to 4 different countries while only doing very minimal planning.

We had four stops on the cruise: Bahamas, Jamaica, Grand Cayman Islands, and Mexico. My only complaint is that, naturally, all of the ports are incredibly touristy, so I didn’t feel as though I got a real vibe for the true culture of most of the countries. Jamaica is the only place where I feel as though I really got a different cultural experience – all the other ports were designed to cater to (mostly American) tourists. Granted, even the Jamaican ports are designed that way, but it’s a bit easier to escape into the Jamaican culture there.

As for the boat, it’s pretty awesome to basically have all your food paid for along with free constant entertainment options for the price one would normally pay for a decent hotel room. If I had to do it again, I would do a bit more research on things to do at the ports (since the cruise only provides you with information on stuff they’re affiliated with), but the experience as a whole was terrific. And it was a much needed break from work.

Of course not to be lost is the fact that it was another opportunity to spend time with Heather, which was the loveliest part of the cruise. Things are still going well with us, although I’ll admit we have our share of petty arguments and “long-distance” problems. Still, she is now a licensed nurse in Georgia and is beginning to look for jobs here. If all goes according to plan she will definitely be living here within six months and hopefully sooner.

Commence the excitement and freakout!

Sounds wonderful! I’ve only been on one cruise and it was with my kids. Think next time, it will just be T and me 🙂 It seemed like the time they gave for the excursions was so short, though. I’d fear “doing my own thing” in those constraints.

I’ve never been on a cruise, but everyone I know who has been definitely recommends it. ~I’ll be

RYN: MATT!!! How are you doing! I see you have written new entries…I will try to catch up immediately :)! Yes, I do agree with you about the sensationalize media. They continue to give these killers the immorality image of satisfication that they were looking for when they committed these heinous crimes. They continued to dramatize this event, and it correlates with the overall attention he wanted to leave behind. Writing and saying things such as, “This is the second deadliest massacre in US history…He was bright but kept to himself extremely..” Or interviewing these traumatized children…to a great extent, this is all inappropriate…and it also encourages other psychopaths and sociopaths to commit these crimes because the sensationalized media has GLORIFIED these mentally unstable murders. Like any deadly image in society, this reaches the masses…and individuals in similar situations like his, as I said, it encourages them to want to act or do it better than what he did. Sensationalize media needs to stop giving these murders that kind of power.

We really need to update.

RYN: You’re right, perhaps he isn’t really a “pedophile” for dating ME…BUT he did date plenty of girls younger than me BEFORE we got together (and most likely afterward). Seriously though, do you think YOU could date a 16 or 17 year old right now (or even want to date one)? Sure I get a lot of guys have a lil fantasy of something like that, but fantasy and reality are 2 different things.

ryn: I merely wish to point out that many have used the option of leaving responses in an unsigned and/or privatized note. I still think she is pissed off at me because we argued about vaccination policy. I suppose I could pose a similar poll for men, but, I just don’t think I’d get many responders due to the imbalanced sex ratio here, especially in the clique that includes me.There’s me, you, OliverHaily, maybe a few sporadics… Davo
