Backpacking

My OD friend Kate and I have started a plan to backpack Europe this May, right after I graduate. I was already planning on taking a couple of weeks off between when I graduated and when I started work, so that would definitely be the perfect time for me to take a trip like this. I’m very rapidly becoming excited about the possibility, but I’m trying to be cautious with my excitement since the last several excursions I’ve started to plan have ended up falling through. But Kate seems really excited about the possibility too, and we’re definitely starting to put things into motion as far as plans go. So, this is all good. I think I’ve really needed something to look forward to and this is just that.

I’m going downtown with Jeroz in a couple of hours – I’m feeling a bit nonplussed about it. I always complain about not having “real life” friends, so I suppose I should be more excited about legitimately having one, but bullshitting about sports and which female accounting majors are the most attractive just isn’t that emotionally rewarding. Still, as I’ve stated before, there is something to be said for just having a friend to go out with and it opens the door to meeting more people, so it’s definitely a good thing.

Now, as to whether me socializing in bars and clubs is a good thing remains to be seen . . .

You need to start getting like, a passport. I hear that takes ages. I can’t count on going out with Drummer Boy, he’s more fickle than I am! ~I’ll be

! This! How exciting! I’m jealous! And excited for you! And hopeful that it all actually pans out! Europe! Backpacking! You have to do it!

i love the new diary title. it’s perfect. when you stop using it, can i have it? and yours for now is right about the passport, they can take many months.

I agree–great title. BACKPACKING. Take me with!

RYN: That’s because I answered most questions with my eyes closed, and also because I am pro-life. What’s Kelli’s sn? I forgot to ask her.

When we went to the clubs downtown, we didn’t socialize with anyone, and I still had a great time. 🙂 you’re just mad fun, Matty. Why do you plan to go backpacking a year earlier than I plan to go backpacking?! This is upsetting. Will you go with me when I go? I plan to go for a couple months. 🙂 In 09. Okay. Later. Love you. *hugs*

Getting my passport took 2 months. I think they raised the time to 10 weeks. Either way, it’s somewhere between 8-10 weeks to get one. And it’s expensive, too. Blah. There is nothing wrong with bars and clubs from time to time. All the time, yes, there is a problem there…but not sometimes. I just got home from one (actually, after we left we walked through a McDonald’s drive-thru :)). TTFNand have fun, ♥ Andrea

See, everyone likes the title that I came up with. I’m a hit, Matt. Also, just fyi, men are just a disappointment. You don’t count. If anything, you’ve been the only positive consistent thing in my life lately. I’m sorry. I hope I don’t rely on you too much. Also, backpacking with you will probablhy be one of the best, most exhilarating experiences of my life. That should make you smile.

I love you, soul friend. Really, thank you for all that you’ve been lately. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have a friend like you and I don’t always voice that credit due to the insane amounts of disappointment I feel with everyone else lately. Matt, you deserve so much in life and I hope I can provide all you deserve out of a friend.

Sounds fun on both counts! I’m wondering how the bar thing turned out now. And I really hope you follow through with the backpacking plan; it sounds fantastic. I have no idea what I’m going to do after I graduate, but I can’t afford to fly to Europe.

Um, Matt, no one else is allowed to come. This is just us, baby! RYN: Yes, we’re talking on MSN in between me working on tax returns and him working on his novel. I’d say we’ve been sending a few messages back and forth every hour, but I’m too busy to stay by the computer anyway. I woke up feeling pretty terrible today so I think I’ve lost quite a bit of interest in him. For now…

I love when you say that. Even if you didn’t actually say it to her (which I wish you did). Aw, Matt, I am so unbelievably excited, it’s ridiculous! We’re going to drown ourselves in different cultures, different languages, different people, different foods, different music, different everything. And we get to do it together! We’ll have to take pictures galore to show our beautiful children. 🙂

The passport can take a long time, but you can also have it done a couple of days for quite a large sum of money, but hey, at least you’ll still get to go. Are you actually backpacking? I can’t see you doing this, which makes me all the more excited for you and probably all the more determined to go. But yes, I have a few ideas for what you can do actually.

So how does that whole “taking time off work before you’re technically even a ‘new hire’ yet” thing work? ^_^
