News and an Anniversary

This morning’s weigh-in: 120.5 lbs

Well, the prayers have been answered!  Thank you all for praying.

I will be seeing the Orthopedic surgeon this Wednesday to discuss being referred to the Pain Management Specialist.  I have, as I always have, doubts that he will use surgery as the final and last cure-all for it.
There is reasoning as to behind why I want to wait for surgery in a year and a half to two years.  My husband, as you may or may not know, is a student Pastor of our current church.  He is employed but not receiving benefits as he is not done with school and the congregation has not officially “called” him to be the Pastor of the church but a student Pastor while he finishes up his school thru Concordia Seminary in St. Louis via the internet and Skype like conference calls with his professors.  Todd, my husband, has about a year left of his schooling and then the church can elect him to the “calling process” to get him as a full-time Pastor thus allowing him to have full-time status with benefits and a salary.  Until then, he has his own insurance which will not allow him to add a family member like a wife or a child.  So I have my own insurance thru the work I am employed by, Woodland Childhood Center as a 3 to 4 year old teacher.  Once, and we are all praying, the church calls him to be pastor I will be put on with his insurance plan as well as him too.  This insurance plan will cover all the surgery and everything involved.  With the insurance i have now thru my work, it won’t even cover 30% or so.  I will be laid up for 8 weeks and not even have full functioning by 6 months and then not even a guarantee to be fully healed by 2 years.  So what we are doing is, yes, waiting.  Waiting for a year or however long it’ll take.  Then I can quit my job and be able to be laid up and heal properly.  This may sound alright, but to me, this option, has both pros and cons.  I can’t stand the agonizing pain I’m in now, taking Ultracet (Tramadol) a non-narcotic, is doing NOTHING for the pain.  Anti-inflammatory and other pain patches are doing nothing too.  Physical therapy will not work.  Had that done and that actually did more damage then good but is still another option. So, we shall see on Wednesday of this week what other options I have open.  I also had four or three, can’t remember, cortisone shots.  Also did not work.
Tomorrow, my husband and i go up to Miami for his spinal cord evaluation.  He is a Quadriplegic and has been having massive spasm attacks that are getting worse since we have been married.  They were very small spasms when we were dating and now they are random and very strong and take up his whole body.  He has also had a cat scan, an MRI, a myelogram and xrays.  His option is exploratory surgery.  So the University of Miami Neurology Unit will be looking at all his files and seeing what OTHER options besides exploratory surgery is he has.  So we have had both our fair share of issues but…………..

Could it be possible that the spasms might be a result of stress? Has the doc answered that question? If so, does he (the patient) need “exploratory” surgery? If the spasms can (medically) be caused by stress, perhaps the doc might give advice about some other solutions other than surgery? What result will the surgery bring; I mean will that remove the spasms or guarantee there will be no spasms in the future? I am not a doc, but I’m just asking questions that occurred to me as I read your entry there. Of course, people need to follow their own doctor’s advice to do what is best for them (the patient). Just brainstorming here that’s all.
