Watch your mouth!

"You kiss your mother with that mouth?" "No, I kiss your mother with this mouth!" Oh the fun lifetime of momma jokes between me and my best friend, Brandon. We’ve known each other since cub scouts and it still hasn’t stoppped. Last year for his birthday, I got him a shirt with the video game rating box (as seen on all video games nowadays) saying, "Your mother, Rated ‘E’ for Everyone"

Where am I going with this? Well my wife came from a violent childhood with her abusive dad. And that was in a ghetto part of town, so curse words were quite the norm with her. And it hadn’t stopped as she grew older, she could curse like a sailor! She’d curse in front of her mom, and she’d curse in front of mine. Which shocked me when she met my parents for the first time, she’d openly curse when telling stories, haha

But now with our son on the way, she’s determined to break that habit. She’s already started to teach herself not to curse, and she’s improved very well! Almost completely in control of it. I would tell her, "If you’re not afraid to curse in front of your parents, you’re not afraid to curse in front of anybody". We’re going with the "lead by example" route as parents, not the "do as I say, not as I do" hypocritical route

My mother-in-law is from Iran, so she had no idea what life was like here for a teenage daughter and how to raise one. So in the end, my wife taught her to curse regularly rather than the mom teaching her to control it, haha.

We know our kids will curse, and do so regularly. But the plan is to teach them not around us, or teachers, basically anyone they should be showing respect to. My brother and I cursed like sailors frequently, and still do. But never around our parents. We knew when it was appropriate and inappropriate

Also, slang words and the teen lingo? Not around us either. I got that idea from a Samuel L. Jackson movie, I think the one where he’s a bad neighbor. He’d correct his kids whenever they speak incorrectly. He’d cut off his kids saying things like "ain’t", and tell them to use the proper words. I like that

It’s a personal pet peeve of mine to see all the grammar errors and incorrectly spellings. I’ll let them pass on Facebook and text messages, but I’ve actually seen them in work emails. It’s just not professional, and I feel embarrassed for those who do it because of how it makes them look. And a bit peeved because it makes our company look less educated when they do also

I mean it’s as fundamental as ‘1+1=2’. "They’re" "There" "Their", "Your" "You’re", "Could have" "Could’ve" "Could of (why does anyone think that’s correct?)"

And rappers trying to sound so cool sound so dumb. Lil’ Wayne, "I ain’t got no worries". Translates to "I am not without worries", meaning you do have worries! Haha. Drake, "I could give a f**k!", that means you do care! You could care! It’s "I couldn’t give a f**k!", it’s not possible for you to care! haha

It’s funny though, I look back at past entries sometimes and I’ll see my entries as a teen or young college student. I’d have a lot of "u", "ur", "urs", and lack of punctuations, "dont" "cant". But now I don’t do it, I mean I’m always emailing at work. I’m on my work computer. I think it’s weird to text on my cell phone like that and then go on my computer and type professionally. I’ll just stick to sounding educated so there’s no slip-ups 😛 (sometimes I want to use that tongue sticking out smiley or the word "haha" in emails, have to remind myself not to)

moral of the story: What you are speaks so loudly, I can’t hear what you are saying

Have a Nice Day!
