No holiday from being greedy

I just came back to the office this morning. I refused to go into work yesterday and get my 4-day weekend! Of course now these next 3 days will be at least 12 hours sitting in the office, plus the 2-hours of commuting in traffic. I stand by my decision! ðŸ˜›

I know Thanksgiving is immediately followed by Black Friday, so the whole "being thankful" thing is a short-lived gimmick. Actually with these "Black Friday" deals starting at 4pm on Thursday, it really shortens the ‘thankful’ gimmick

But on Thursday, since my job is at a hospital, there had to be people at work on Thanksgiving. To make up for that, we offered a free Thanksgiving lunch for the workers who had to be there. It’s a nice gesture, they sent mass emails reminding everyone who’s working that day to get their Thanksgiving meal since they won’t get a chance with their family

Upon arriving at work this morning, I checked my email and found a lot of people responded to these mass emails. And not positively. They were angry that the AM shift or the PM shift were unable to get the free Thanksgiving lunch. I guess I could understand why these people would feel slighted, but apparently the nice gesture flew over their heads

It was intended, and clearly stated in the emails, for those who worked the usual 9-6 shift that would miss a Thanksgiving meal with their families. They couldn’t make lunch with them since they’re at work, and after the commute home would likely miss dinner as well. A high executive actually had to send a mass reply to explain this to the complainers like school children, haha

The people who worked the night shift or the morning shift would have been available for a Thanksgiving meal with their families. Whether it was lunch or dinner.

I guess they didn’t read anything outside of the words "Free Thanksgiving Lunch for staff" (‘working the day shift’ were indeed the next words in the emails). If you had the morning or night time shift, you would actually have to go out of your way to attempt to get that meal. Why go to your workplace in your free time on Thanksgiving when you could be with family instead?

moral of the story: There’s a difference between clicking ‘Reply’ and clicking ‘Reply All’ in mass emails. You may embarrass yourself while showing your greed

Have a Nice Day!
