My dad is hard to talk to…
… but not in a negative way! He’s actually a good-hearted guy who always has the best intentions. But a conversationalist he is not! It can be funny in a comic relief sort of way, but it can be frustrating especially when you’re already in a mad mood (see previous entry)
I’m not a man of many words (although I’m a man of many entries and notes, haha) at times, so I hate repeating myself over and over again. That’s how it is with my dad, his way of conversing is repeatedly asking obvious questions. Whether it’s just to keep a conversation going or he forgets things (he’s getting up there in age), I don’t know but it pushes my buttons
Take lunch with him last Friday, I was trying to make plans with him to do something for my mom’s bday later this month. My wife and I will be out of town the weekend of her bday to visit my wife’s brother in California (mainly to see my wife’s nieces and nephews, haha). So I brought it up to him yet again (it’s been talked about a lot):
Me: We have to figure when we can celebrate Mom’s birthday with her since we’ll be in California her bday weekend
Dad: Oh yea, we’ll find something….. you’re going to California?
Me: Yes
Dad: When?
I swear I wanted to scream, "ON HER BIRTHDAY WEEKEND LIKE WE’VE TOLD YOU A MILLION TIMES! THAT’S WHY WE’RE TRYING TO PLAN SOMETHING WITH HER BEFORE THEN!". But of course I didn’t π
And he wanted to plan a family vacation next year. Him, my mom, me, Sally, my bro and his wife and kids all going to Disney World together! Which is cool! So he asks:
Dad: You have any trips planned next year?
Me: Yes we’re going to New York for our anniversary(I’ve told him this many times also)
Dad: When is that? In June?
I wanted to yell, "IT’S IN APRIL! IT JUST HAPPENED THIS YEAR! YOU WERE THERE! YOU HELPED PAY FOR THINGS AND FLEW FAMILY IN!", but I didn’t π
moral of the story: Nowadays people type in all caps to show they’re yelling or are angry at those moments. My handwriting is chicken scratch and only readable when I write in all caps. Do people I’ve written things to think I’m yelling at them?
Have a Nice Day!
