Lead by example!
My wife is always reading books/articles with advice, tips, and all that jazz, on raising a kid. These things can be overwhelming in tired, campy cliches, and in other sections they could contradict each other on certain ways to handle things. So my wife is always throwing things at me about how "we shoud do this", "we should do that", "what do you think about this", or "what do you think about that". To me it’s really simple…
LEAD BY EXAMPLE!
I believe no matter how you try to raise your kids, what you tell them or attempt to teach them means nothing because they’ll see right through you. They’ll see you, and that, my friend, is their role model. The key to parenting to me is being a good role model the kid can look up to and trust in. Not to try and teach them this is how to behave when you don’t do so yourself
My brother and I, despite how rebellious we were growing up, grew up to be just like my dad. Not on purpose, it just happened. Because he was our role model, and we viewed how hard he worked to provide for his family a nice life as the norm
Anyways, I wasn’t planning on ranting on parenting. My point actually pertains to work yesterday morning
I was at work at 6:15am as usual. The 3 co-workers who usually get there before me were not. The Senior Accountant did not arrive at 9am like she usually does and neither did my boss, the Comptroller. So basically I was there myself. At about 8:50am the Pharmacy Director showed up in the dept, and was not happy nobody was there. The Pharmacy dpeartment just finished their inventory count, so somebody had to go audit their count
One of the 3 co-workers was supposed to be there to do it. I couldn’t help because I had a meeting/training session at 9am over a new data system the CFO is on my ass about, so that outranks everyone else mentioned so far. The Pharmacy Director demanded the cell phone number of my boss
So later, during my training session with the dude in my office, my boss calls. And he’s all loud and pissed nobody is there to audit Pharmacy. I told him I can’t do it, and he knows the CFO needs his project done. So he has me give him the cell numbers of other people
He calls back again even more pissed because no one is answering. He actually has me leave the guy in my office for 30 minutes to do the audit and get back to my training session after
By the time all that’s done, everyone has actually shown up in the deparmtent. Except my boss. And I needed him to sign a report for me to be faxed out asap. And that just led me to think about how mad he was about everyone not being there yet I managed to refrain from asking, "Well where are you?"
When he did come in, he just said he had an errand to run. But until he did arrive (around lunch time), nobody knew that. Nobody knew where you were or why you showed up late, so to me that negates your irritation of other people not being there on time for unknown reasons
My boss is a cool guy, and I get along with him. But it’s no secret he’s not well respected in the department. He’s pretty much lost control, and everyone sees it. I don’t care about your job position, you don’t have grounds to stand on to look down at other people when you do the same thing
moral of the story: We are all hypocrites, but don’t make it blatantly obvious 😛
Have a Nice Day!
