My religion is science.

Access to a free online journal that describes Turner’s syndrome. I’m not sure why, but I find solace in the reasoning of science when I’m emotionally wrought.

My chances for this happening again are about 1 in 385, just as it was about 1 in 385 that it happened this time. Its supposedly due to bad luck, not genetic mechanism…  Even if it wasn’t Turner’s, I know what the commonly associated hypoplastic left heart syndrome really looks like: I nursed babies through the three stage surgical palliation in Edmonton for four years. My baby will be supported by me, and won’t feel the pain that comes from not being able to oxygenate his or her blood.

The support I’ve had here has meant so much. Thank you.

Hi, I don’t mind talking about it at all, it actually helps. The first D&C was pretty straight forward, I had no real pain or discomfort from it and only bled enough to require protection for about 48 hours. Was spotting for the rest of the two weeks. Your emotions go crazy yes, but all your symptoms of pergnancy will leave pretty quickly. The emotions are mainly down to the fact you’ve lost…

…your baby. I’m still struggling to come to terms with the first loss now. It’s really really hard. The second wasn’t technically a D&C apparently, it was something suction based because the medical hadn’t fully worked. The medical was really painful. This surgery though, I stopped bleeding after 24hrs. Unfortunatly though, 48hr after I started bleeding again, but it was off colour and…

…I was producing white clots. I was also in a lot of pain and discomfort. Turns out I had an infection so am now on some very strong antibiotics. Everyone I came into contact with at hospital was lovely, and did everything they could to help. You’ll have to put up with tablets being inserted to your cervix an hour before the op and not being able to move, and a massive dose of antibiotics…

…to try and prevent infection. I really wasn’t in any pain but they do provide painkillers just in case. If you want to talk about anything, please let me know. Or if you have any more questions. I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this, it always breaks my heart to hear about it because I know how awful it is. Take care xxx

You haven’t offended me at all :O) I was given three options: 1) Wait and let it happen naturally 2) Medical (tablets) 3) Surgical wait and see wasn’t an option – my first went to 12weeks with no signs of a problem. I didn’t want to put myself through surgery twice in 6months so tried to avoid it. The medical option was by far the most painful and uncomfortable of the two, but if it had worked…

…then I’d be ok by now. But instead this has dragged on for nearly a month. So long as you don’t react badly to an anesthetic then I would say the D&C is the better option. The medical with the heavy bleeding a clots was very traumatic mentally and with the D&C you don’t see that, it’s slightly less real. I know that possibly sounds a little crazy but I hope you understand what I mean…

…I’m not big on going out, I’m very happy at home looking after the animals and spending time with the bf. We do go out and see people, but when I’m working I’m usually too tired to think about that kind of thing. If it works for you, and in your situation I can totally understand that, then go for it. Again, if there’s anything you want to ask, just let me know and I’ll try to answer xxx

I don’t know about that, I still find it really difficult to physically talk about. Writing about it is about the only way I can really talk about it. Maybe in the future xxx
