Toxic

Today, I am 100% a Training Support Specialist.

A month ago, my teammates, who are Training Support Specialists – customer service people (I’m a Courseware Developer – background guy or gal), incurred a huge backlog. This is due to a deadline they set to the Customers and there was a steady stream of emails and calls. As a good samaritan, also because I have nothing urgent to do as of the moment, I offered my help.

So, the senior support specialist trained me for 30 minutes and I was ready to go. I only need to do 1 specific task and they will reply to the Customers themselves once I have done this task. A week after that, they are still swamped. So, I again offered my help. If it was just to reply and confirm to the Customers that this task is already taken care of, then it’s a no brainer, no?

And so, I was doing that for a week, when suddenly, one of these 3 training support specialists resigned and no longer came in. This time, they did not wait for me to offer my assistance, our manager just gave me additional tasks to perform. Okay, so the task is a bit tricky, but after 30 minutes of training, I got the gist and was ready to roll.

And so I was doing these things for more than a week now. The senior specialist is on planned vacation yesterday and today. The other specialist was supposed to receive all the calls today and I was to help him with the emails. Unfortunately, he called in sick with conjunctivitis. If this is true, then it’s better he stay at home so he won’t infect us all. IF it’s just simple eye irritation, which has about 70% chance of being true, then I guess he needs to explain himself. He knows the team is counting on him today and he let the team down.

And so it was me, and another teammate, who is also not a Training Support Specialist, who took care of the queries from these Customers. He took care of the calls, I took care of the emails.

Well, it was worth it, I think. Because we got a response from one of my emails that goes like this:

"Again thanks for the excellent customer service." Wow, we weren’t customer-facing and yet apparently we give excellent customer service! I don’t even know half of what the Customers are saying, I just relied on my research skills.

Time to get back to work. I’m getting underpaid for overworking. They might pay me more if I do nothing. Hahahaha! Dry humor, sorry!

it’s me,
