Time and Proportions
I visited my Pain and Rehab doctor last Saturday for a follow-up consultation, after 12 sessions of physical therapy.
I was there at 11am to list my name in the queue, then I left for a couple of hours to do some groceries and buy baby Marc a high chair. I need him to stay put while eating because he’s in the habit of walking and running around the house while eating, that’s why he vomits most of his meal.
So, hubby and I had lunch at 1pm, then by 2pm, we were back at the hospital, because the doctor arrives at 3pm. Then I was tempted to pick a fight with an elevator maintenance/admin guy because I got irked by what he told us. Since we were carrying a box containing baby Marc’s high chair, a roll of carpet and a couple of grocery bags, this guy told us to take the stairs. So we told him, the stuff we were carrying was heavy and our destination is the 6th floor. And he said: just take the stairs because there are still a lot of patients waiting to ride the elevator. What the hell??!!! Of course there are a lot of patients, we know that. That’s why we were standing in line, to wait for our turn. But he didn’t want us to stand in line, because of our stuff, and maybe he was thinking, our stuff will occupy more space that the patients can still take.
I was really going to scream at him and maybe hit him with the roll of carpet, or something… But we just went upstairs and let my anger subside. Afterwards, I wrote the hospital management about their employee. Hopefully, they do something about it.
What did he think we were? Merchants? Are we not patients as well? What the fudgie barr!!
Anyway, at 3pm, the doctor started with patients under private account – those not using any HMO. So we were called around 540pm, and before 6pm, we were out of the clinic and on our way home. That’s about 10 minutes of consultation period against 4 hours of waiting time!
Next time, I’m choosing a different rehab doctor. The one with less patients waiting. It’s really not worth wasting my time with.
By the way, my 12 sessions of therapy went great, and I graduated from PT sessions for my myofascial pain syndrome and for my loose knee pad issues. However, I acquired a new pain issue – my pectoral muscles – from carrying baby Marc during our recent travel. We went to Cebu City last Jan 5-8 for hubby’s birthday. I was carrying baby Marc the whole time, while hubby was carrying our luggage. We did not bring the stroller because it weighs 12kg already.
Oh, well. I’m gonna need muscle relaxants, she said. and hot compress 2x a day. If it doesn’t work, then I’m back to PT sessions. So far, the hot compress is working. I can now breathe with less difficulty than before.
I want to watch Les Miserables! And Life of Pi, then Zero Dark Thirty, Jack Reacher and the Hobbit. I just don’t know where to get the time to watch them from the Cinemas…
it’s me,
