My Birthdays Suck

Every year, on my birthday, I am bedridden.

I started to realize this when I remember my 2008 birthday – I was in Singapore, I wasn’t able to roam the city because I was inside the hotel room – sick with flu.

In 2009, we went to visit my parents and I was sick with tonsillitis and I had a fever.

In 2010, we went to Bohol, a place in the south, had a beach front room, but I had to stay indoors because I had a fever. Yay!

In 2011, last year, I was pregnant, and we went to a rest house somewhere, we had to travel 2 hours one way… Then when we got back, I came down with flu!

Yesterday, on my birthday, I thought I had escaped this bad fate… I thought now the odds are in my favor, I don’t feel sick and I don’t have a fever. I knew it! It’s too good to be true not to be sick. On the day itself, I was feeling super tired and I just slept the whole morning. In the afternoon, I wanted to watch some movies, but the movie I wanted was no longer available, but there were other movies in the other mall, so we transferred. It was okay, it relaxed me. But then the headache came. Boom! It did not make me sleep at all.

And to make it worse, this morning I felt a node in my neck, a symptom of an infection.

So I went to the doctor and he found worse than I thought. I was thinking there was just an infection and it’s going to be okay.

But no, there is an infection, but he also found out that my eardrum in my right ear was pushed back farther than the eardrum on my left ear. So the pressure is not balanced. That’s why I was experiencing this headache. Also, I planned to visit our parents again this week, and we already booked a flight for tomorrow. Of course the doctor advised me not to take the plane because it would aggravate the infection and the pain. If I insist, then I would have to suffer the consequences. But he gave some medication to aggressively treat the condition. And when I am not doing anything, I need to keep swallowing while pinching my nose.
