Wow. Two months without any entry in OD.
Pardon for a gloomy entry today.
My heart goes out to those affected by the recent flooding in the Philippines. It’s devastating, I can’t even begin to describe how I feel. What more those who are actually affected?
But what saddens me more is when a news reporter asked a resident, who was at the time evacuating, why they seem to be calm amidst the situation, the answer was: we’re used to it.
Nobody should get used to it, for Pete’s sake! These situations can be avoided! It’s not like God is punishing us because we are all sinners. Yes, we are sinners, but God is not doing this to us. WE are responsible for all these.
The Government is responsible for creating and maintaining better drainage system – because we are visited by heavy rains and typhoons more than half of the year. The Government is responsible for implementing laws that prevent continuous logging in mountains and forests where there’s already a scarcity of trees, one can’t even call them forests. And many more…
Why are these people so resilient? I admire resilience but sometimes, having this trait can backfire against them. If they’re not willing to change the things that are keeping them down, they will forever stay down. If they keep allowing other people (I meant, the corrupt politicians) to trample on them, their status in life will never change. And we, as a nation will never rise from poverty.
It’s just so sad.
I feel bad.
I have to make things better for baby Marc. I need to make things better for him.
it’s me,
