Bizzare

Yes, that word is an understatement for Thursday night’s adventures.

First, let me backtrack a bit.  Back in June, I briefly mentioned Jeremy and Robin and posted some pics of us partying with our favorite band, but I don’t believe I ever gave any background information about them.  Jeremy and Chuck have known each other since 2005, and have been very close friends since.  Jeremy is a military contractor, as well, and has also spent much of the last several years in Iraq.  In fact, he was in country with Chuck and me the summer of 2007, and that’s when I first met him.

That fateful few months was definitely a summer of love.  Jeremy fell into a predicament oddly similar to that of mine and Chuck’s.  He and his unfaithful wife were on the verge of divorce, when along came Robin.  At the time, Robin was in the Austrailian Army serving in Baghdad.  Like us, I don’t think Jeremy and Robin ever intended to continue their relationship once they both returned to their respective homes, especially considering he lives here in Texas and she in another country.  But my, how love is a powerful thing.  Robin is currently here in the states on her second several-month-long stay.  I met her in June on her first trip to the US, and we’ve become quite good friends since.  Jeremy and Robin often hang out at our house, having drinks and just shooting the shit, when they’re both in town.

Fast forward to Thursday night.

Chuck called just before getting off work at 8pm to let me know that the pair would be stopping by for some drinks.  The night started out as usual with Chuck pouring the three of them mixed drinks of Red Bull, cranberry juice, and vodka and popping open a bottle of white for me.  We huddled around the dining room table, telling stories, debating about the state of the country given the recent elections, and joking about Chuck’s conspriacy theorist tendencies.  The longer we chattered, the stronger the liquored flowed between them, yet I stuck to a measley two glasses of wine.  What can I say?  This drinking-every-night thing has not done wonders for my body, so I’ve cut back drastically over the last several weeks.

It quickly became apparent that Robin was feeling a little frisky after she began exhibiting the tell-tale signs of total intoxication and after excitedly suggesting, "Let’s play strip poker!"  We all giggled at the idea, but just brushed it off as I began telling mine and Chuck’s story of getting uber competitive while playing strip Wii.  Don’t knock it until you try it.  Little did I know that just a couple of hours later we’d all be the stars of a strange, 60’s swinger scene.  Had I been the player with primary control of the Wii-mote, Chuck and I would’ve been dressed all night, but alas, not a damn one of us had clothes on by 3am.  Oddly enough, nothing kinky ever happened, and we soon passed out from drunkenness and/or exhaustion.  We all woke up the next morning (especially me, considering I was completely sober the night before) wondering, "How in the hell did that happen?!"

In other news, Chuck and I had an awesome weekend.  We slept in quite later than usual Saturday morning, and shortly after rising, Chuck asked if I’d like to visit San Antonio.  He wanted to take me to see the Alamo and to shop around the River Walk.  We both showered and dressed, loaded up the car with a change of clothes for later that night, and headed south.  We first stopped for some Mexican and margaritas, and we spent a couple of hours just walking up and down the river.  I never expected it to be so beautiful, and I’m pretty sure I captured some amazing shots with my new camera.  After I was satisfied that I’d taken pictures of everything imaginable, we returned the camera to the car and spent the rest of the afternoon shopping.

Rather than coming home that night, we convinced nearly all of our friends to meet us in Austin at Fado’s.  Our favorite band, Blaggards, just returned from tour, and even they were shocked at the size of the crowd we brought.  At least half the patrons on the back patio had come with us.  It was a perfect night of singing, dancing, and downing pints of Guinness.  After the crazy work schedules that Chuck and I have both been stuck with lately, Saturday was a blissful and much-needed getaway.

Yesterday was spent sleeping.  And that’s pretty much all.

Chuck has the day off today.  He’s at the grocery store picking up some sashimi grade fish.  We’re going to attempt some homemade sushi.  Yeah, cross your fingers that the fish market knows what they’re doing.

Cheers,
Felina
