What They Don’t Tell You
When you’re a young,
innocent child
you have to trust everyone around you
to teach you what you need to know
But see,
there are some things
they fail to mention
They don’t tell you
about the broken hearts,
the stinging words,
or the pain that can’t be kissed away
They don’t tell you
about the rumors that will be spread,
the trust that will be broken,
or the secrets that won’t be kept
They don’t tell you
about the friends that will be lost,
the family that will pass on,
or the loneliness you will feel
They don’t tell you
about the dreams that won’t come true,
the goals that won’t be met,
or the absence of happy endings
They don’t tell you
about the people lacking emotion,
the people without remorse,
or the people who want to see you fail
They don’t tell you
so they won’t hurt your feelings,
or make you sad,
or ruin your fairytale ending
But what they don’t tell you
only hurts you in the end,
because you will only be more disappointed
when you learn it for yourself
