Last supper and a car rollover
We invited neighbours who still haven’t left yet… how many more farewell ‘do’s’?…over for tea… as their house and oven have all been cleaned and the furniture all gone… and the use of our bathroom as their bathroom now cleaned as well… they slept in their camper last night…
We were just getting tea ready when a vehicle with flashing lights went by… we were discussing this… when other one went by… this one was definately an ambulance.. so I rang the closest neighbour with view of the road but she said none of them had passed her house..
When the neighbours arrived they had given directions to a THIRD ambulance vehicle stopped, lost on the crossroad, (which was apparently what the first car was) – directions of "the other two went THAT way", we decided to send the two men up the road to see if further assistance was required…
We were also, quite alarmed at the speed of the last, previously lost, ambulance car and were certain that it too would be in, or cause further accident. Some people are SO stupid, to drive at speed, at dusk, on a animal prone, poor condition dirt road, that they are completely unfamiliar with.
The information, when the men returned, was a single vehicle rollover. Small cheap city car, mum and two small children, not travelling at speed so much as an unexpected and nasty bend in the road past us, with pot holes, corrugations, soft edges, camber the wrong angle, etc….. on I approach in my 2wd with much caution, but I know it’s there…
Car was way in the scrub upside down, wheel marks tell the story of the struggle to keep control on the bend, passengers all walking (thank GOD) up the road to find the nearest farmhouse.
We have very poor mobile phone coverage out here (and internet!), poor roads and people have accidents all the time. Country road fatalities take up 70% of the total and well, I wonder why.. not!
We have had huge rain today. Mr 8 was a little bit unwell and well to tell you the truth I wasnt game to drive him to his school today… I took Mr13 to his school, road is not so bad usually to his one, but that was quite enough of an experience, thankyou. We are going his way tomorrow so that will be ok by then if I take it easy, but if it rains again I’ll be taking the 4WD.. Old smelly diesel rattler it is.
Thinking about a new car but umm-ing what to get… fuel efficient petrol 4wd wagony thing… what do you reckon? We can claim a ute but they are not so family friendly..
Hugs good bye of neighbours this morning again….. we will miss them very very much… we have got quite close over the years… daily interaction between the men and I’ve really got to know the kids… adore her… an inspiration…lovely young family…
