Update: “Pray for Rain”

The other day, I posted a video from Focus on the Family’s Citizen-Link calling people to pray for “rain of Biblical proportions” during Obama’s acceptance speech during the Democratic National Convention. It turns out that Citizen-Link has pulled the video. Their spokesperson commented, saying, “If people took it seriously, we regret it.”

My comment? It’s truly sad that their only “regret” is that people took it seriously. After all, they want to be able to sweep their callousness under the rug simply by saying, “Hey it was a joke!” Granted, this doesn’t come as a shock. I’ve met more than one bigot who when called on the carpet for an inappropriate comment, try to worm out of it by getting defensive and saying, “It’s a joke! Can’t you take a joke?”

Well, folks, let me spell it out for you. There are just some things that decent people don’t joke about. Praying that ill fortune befalls others is one such thing. (You know, if some religions, that’s called cursing someone.) It’s not funny. It never will be funny. All joking about such things does is demonstrate the total lack of character of the one making such a joke.

And that’s what the folks at Citizen-Link should really be regretting. They should regret that for all their talk about morals and righteousness, they’ve clearly shown the world that when it comes to character and human decency, they’re some of the most morally bankrupt people out there.

Granted, they should regret that they’ve become so bankrupt. But at this point, I think the best we can hope for is that they regret that people now know how depraved they are.

By the way, a copy of the original video is still available via the link above.

Saw you on the front page.. and good gravy. I agree, some things are just not appropriate to joke about. People like that make me physically ill. Sigh. Well, hopefully if nothing else other people WILL realize their depravity. I guess it’s too much to hope that they will realize their own depravity.

*nods in agreement*

They’re just wrong on so many levels. Now they’re piling lying on top of evil. Wow. The karma/orlog on that has gotta be intense.

It’s called cursing someone in Christianity, too. And how ELSE would people take it? It was MEANT seriously, but because they finally realized how unChristian it makes them look, now all of a sudden it was a joke and they’re sorry people took it seriously and took offense to it.

^ I agree with Irish Angel. Don’t even get me started on how God is neither Republican or Democratic. ~phew~ Have you ever heard of Greg Boyd? I think you’d like him.
