Good news, etc.
I got into University of Hawaii! I found out last week and I’ve been pleased about it ever since. The question now is, will any other schools accept me as well? I’m still waiting on Johns Hopkins, UC Irvine, and Colorado State.
Hawaii is a tempting option. I’d love to return to a land of mountains, islands, and adventure, especially one without horrid Winters, but the money there isn’t so great. In addition, I have to consider the fact that the cost of living in Hawaii is really high. Granted, if Hawaii is my only choice, I’m definitely going. But if UC Irvine or Hopkins get back to me with a better financial offer, will I be able to turn them down?
Other things of note:
I’ve still been meditating a lot, but I haven’t been exercising enough. The walking is going well, but I’ve been jogging less and I think the beer gut is making a bit of a comeback.
I’ve succeeded in publishing another short story in eFiction. That’s my third so far! It wasn’t my best piece of writing, but it was fun. The story follows a girl as treks through the snow with her virtual reality goggles and struggles to get to a friend’s house. It was published in an issue themed on the internet, so I think it was a good submission overall. I’m working on another one now about a man who doesn’t know that he’s an android. It’s definitely better than “Snow, Ones, and Zeros,” and I even got Jonathan Dean to look over it for me.
Lastly, I got my car towed yesterday. Somehow, I parked in a spot where you can’t stop between 4-6 pm on weekdays. It cost me $275. That’s more money than I make in an entire week! Whew. How obnoxious. It sucks to have to deal with this stuff as a young person these days, but Ryan prevails! Hopefully I won’t need a car in grad school at all. Here’s to better luck next year!
Saw you on the front page, congrats on getting into school! Your story sounds interesting, good for you for getting it out there. I’ve always wanted to meditate but just have never been able to get myself to do it regularly.

Hello! Thanks for your note. And congratulations on getting into Hawaii Uni – that has to be a cool place to study. A man who doesn’t know he’s an android… wasn’t this in a film? I can’t think which one. I’m not good on sci fi. Hmm. Have you seen those amazing Google Goggles?!! So frickin cool. Parking – it’s expensive!
