Dinner with the Josons

Last night, I drove home from work to meet my parents and have dinner with the Josons. They’re old friends, a Filipino family that sent their kids to the same school that I went to. Mark and I basically experience first grade through 12th together, although we weren’t always close friends.

The occasion last night happened because his mom wanted to take us all out to dinner. I’m not sure whether it’s because my birthday is coming up, because I’m leaving for Hawaii in a couple of months, or just because she wanted to be generous. Ever since we used to drive Mark home from High School, his mom has always been really nice to us and given us presents on Christmas. I’m not sure whether it’s a cultural thing, or whether she’s just someone who is really generous by nature.

Anyway, my mom decided we should go to Trolley Stop in Ellicott City because it’s somewhere that’s good, but not too expensive. I had buffalo wings and a Black-N-Blue Burgers and talked to mark about movies and Hawaii. He had the crab cakes. All around, it was a savory meal, and way too filling. I saved the leftovers for lunch and breakfast this morning.

Afterward, we have break pudding for desert and mom took a bunch of tickets, both at the table and outside. Oh, and Ms. Joson bought us powerball tickets. I’m not one to play the lottery – I never buy tickets because I think it’s a waste of money – but I can see the appeal. It’s exciting to imagine yourself with 127 million days. Nonetheless, holding the ticket in my hand, I sort of know that the money always ends up ruining people’s lives. What would I do with it?

Other things of note:

– Birthday party is coming up this weekend. We’ll be having drinks in Mt. Vernon!
– Emily is back at the Science Center and we worked together again for the first time yesterday. After she got off, we had lunch at Subway.
– Erick broke up with his girlfriend Ali, but hasn’t talked much about it.
