Saint Louis Dinner and Dancing!
I did something I usually do not.
I asked a girl out who I met through work-who I saw in court one fine friday afternoon.
A lawyer-gal, who does largely the same job I do…..
We hung out in a group setting a few weeks ago.
But our first official real "date" was last night, in Saint Louis (where, she of course, lives).
8:00PM was the pickup time.
5:30 I left from Hannibal (its a good 2 hours either way)
Around 4:00 or so I start getting ready; selecting which fancy dress shirt to wear (I went with white with a hit of purple stripes)
pinstripe-or-not pinstripe pants…
and the various other facets of the dating requirements. I wore my David Beckham cologne (I know…I know, he’s a pretty-boy-lame-o. I can’t stand the brit…but his cologne is fucking delightful)
I step out towards the miata….electronic key in hand…..
And its pouring down fucking-raining. I’m talking deluge-proportions raining. For a brief second I thought whether it was worth it. Worth the concentration that would be required to drive a 2 door roadster with rear wheel drive and low-profile tires in this storm.
Then I remember I was going to see a girl.
So, the moment passed, I jumped in my Miata, and took off for good ol’ Saint Louis.
The drive went well. And by well, I mean I was scared out of my mind that I was going to die. However, I did not die. The miata did not slide off the road into a ditch. In other words, it was a complete success…..
90 Minutes or so into it, I give ye ol’ date a courtesy call(since I was about 15 minutes ahead of schedule); "I’m about 30 minutes away….be there in a bit, (and I mentioned something about the weather) She responds "its clear here." Hmm. no points for driving in a deluge. Poor E!
Then she says "Oh, if your that close, I better go hop into the shower….." ("Oh no" my mind screams…I see where this is headed)
-Cut to 30 minutes later….
I call again. "K, I’m here." A brief pause: "you’re like 10 minutes early…"
E: Well…I had to drive 2 hours to get here…arriving within 10 minutes seems pretty good to me…and I’m early"
K:I’m not ready yet. Can you drive around the block or something?
E: Blink, Blink. (GIRLS! my head shakes…) Sure.
I hang up with K. I park, right in front of her house.
I pick up my cell phone. I call my good buddy from college, B. (who lives in Georgia)
E: "Hey whats up"
B: "Yo man whats going on!" Good to hear from ya"
E: I’m sitting out in my car, waiting for my date. I’m here to pick her up, she’s not ready."
We laugh.
(We proceed to have a 15 minute conversation)
I get a call on the other line…..its K.
E: Yo B I gotta run, she’s calling me on the other line…..
B: Good luck on your date. Not like you ever need it.
–We laugh. College friendships are what they are. haha.
———————-K walks out to my car and hops in. (let the Date finally begin!)
The plans were all mine. I was in Saint Louis; for a night on the town! So i wanted to hit my hot-spots.
First. Dinner. We went to Dressel’s pub. My favorite restaurant/locale in all of Saint Louis.
I knew what I wanted and ordered it. Apparently K wanted the same. Refused to order the same as me. Waiter had to come back. I was laugh-laugh-laughing. Girls.
Dinner started at 8:30PM. We left Dressel’s at 12:30. I didn’t even notice the time. Craziness. Conversations about life, politics, and law.
Finally, it was time to move on. Next: BB’s blues and soup. My favorite blues club in Saint Louis. We arrive around 1:15 or so. I did get briefly lost on my way….(i haven’t been through downtown STL for a while)
Decent blues band playing. We went there for some dancing….
We order drinks; talking continues……
Finally we decide to dance; we roll out onto the dance floor and "shake our groove thangs"
2 songs later, the place is closing!
Its already 3:00AM…..
K stumbles outside. The doorway into the bar has a step down. She didn’t see it. I giggled. (oops) Sorry….but people tripping is funny)
I asked her if she was ok. She was….
Our date ended around 3:30AM. I took her home; dropped her off.
And then I had a crucial decision; go hang with my friends (who were likely in bed) or just suck it up and drive back to Hannibal.
I drove back to hannibal. 2 freaking hours. I made it home at 5:30AM, and promptly crashed out.
It was a fun date. fun times.
But I will not drive back in the same night again. Well, at least it wasn’t raining on the way home.
Oodles o’ love,
Erotique
Damn. Must be a worthwhile girl to do four hours of driving for one date! Sounds like fun. My dates last, umm… 30 minutes? We only go out to dinner and usually rush it… but I guess that’s what happens when you’ve been with someone for years and know everything about them! Glad you had a great time. 🙂

i was always ready early for dates. I find myself being ready like 20 minutes early, and then just having to sit there and wait because i couldn’t do anything all dressed up incase i ruined my look. Sounds like a fun night
