Gen-Con and Beyond
I woke up on Saturday to the most lovely sound imaginable. In fact, it was so delightful i have no decided to add respective "skill" to the long list of "ideal girl" requirements. I have to thank my underclassman pal Dave for that, as he was generous enough to allow me to spend the night at his family home, in the most-interesting city of indianapolis. Much A-do thanks aside, Dave’s sister (an analytic philosophy major turned med student) was home for the weekend, and apparently one of her rituals is "early morning piano playing." I have now decided this is one of the greatest things ever, and more than anything, i pity my daughter-to-be, as i’m surely going to entice her to take lessons, if i can’t find a pretty girl to serenade me.
-Oh my.
But girl fantasies and requirements aside, i had an amazing time at gen con. I managed to participate in some medieval fighting, talk to more (famous-to-me) people than i could ever imagine (a la most of the artists who illustrate for D&D, as well as the authors of the D&D fiction novels i used to read as a kid)
More than that though, it was the general overall environment. Any role playing game i didnt know about, i would simply ask about it, and more often than not, the creator of the freakin’ game would come out, talk to me about it, what he wrote the game for, and would offer a demo-game (usually for around 15 min)….and the slogan afterward of "autographs are free." For any piece of work purchased. Good. Stuff.
Also, the random quotes throughout the day:
random guy 1 walks up to random guy 2: "Did gandalf walk by here?"
guy 2: "Yeah, i think he went that way." (Pointing down the hall)

The highlight of the day though, was while waiting for the medieval combat line. The general idea is as follows: pay 3 bucks, pick up a wooden/soft covered weapon and or shield and or off-hand weapon…and challenge one of the professional medieval combatants. (Wherein they make the 16 year olds who pick the "two sword" combination look like total uncoordinated idiots). Well, while in line, this 30-something guy, (the next one in line) steps up. Hes around 6’3-6’5, and i’d say a good 250lbs at least. He walks over to the pile of weapons, picks up the largest 2 handed mace he can find, thrusts it above his head, and screams "my name is Grom!!!!!!!" Grom will crush you!!!"
-He then proceeds to throw his entire weight at the guy, swinging the huge mace and screaming war chants the entire time. In fact, it reached such a furor that the crowd (even me!) started chanting "Grom! Grom! Grom!" with each swing. It was simply fantastic.

I spent sunday with Dave learning the art of juggling, and then returned to St. Louis around 10pm, at which time Sean called me, i joined in the poker night, and in 2 hours managed to win a nice haul of 150 bucks. (which, in turn, made the entire trip to gen-con free!) Which worked out nice. Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.
A quick-closing/side note: Much drama popping up: both Jacinda (which i saw coming and was prepared for) and D-s activities are at their peak. Tis s’ok though because i feel some serious changes in the air. I think i let law school get to me a bit, and i started actually taking a bit of it to heart last year, with all the BS, from beginning to end. But not now, now that i see graduation and employment on the horizon, work, (perhaps even riches?) and more importantly, success.

To quote a fatherly figure: "you should be proud of yourself E, you are going to be a doctor of jurisprudence and that is no easy feat. You deserve every ounce of praise and achievement…because that is exactly what it is."
Damn right.

The infamous 3rd year of law school. I skipped my first class, purchased a scatter-shot amount of the required texts, and have one of my best pals for both my trial-partner and my moot court partner. Magnificent. Just…magnificent.
(Oh, and i can play world of warcraft again.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Oodles o’ love,

Did Gandalf walk by here???? I cant imagine being someplace where someone could ask that question and no one would even blink at it. That whole thing sounded awesome. I thought you were at GameCon, it was going on the same weekend in the same place (I think) and I got all confused. hehehehe.

Is it bad that I don’t know who gandalf is? Anyhoo, I play the piano and I LOVE the sound of it. That’s what keeps me going. Unfortunately I no longer have access to a piano 24/7 and boy do I miss it…. the sound is amazing….
