this is what all my color paintings start out with (in my normal working mode, sometimes i deviate just for the hell of it).
the technique is called under-painting, all the shading and tonal values are done in a two tone media, then the color is added in a layered manner, it’s an old technique, but one i like for the depth of the finished work,..
