[♥] Evil On The Bayou
Evil on the Bayou
Richie Tankersley Cusick
Page Count: 148
Genre: Young Adult Horror
As Cusick’s first published novel, Evil on the Bayou is a little rougher than her other works, but definitely a page turner.
On the very first page, we meet Meg Daton, a teenage girl who has been elected by her mother to look after her sickly Aunt Belle during a week of her summer vacation. Meg is less than thrilled, but she goes along with it. After all, her mother has done so much for her, she can’t really refuse one little favor. But after a few days in the bayou country, Meg realizes that this little favor has turned into a terrifying nightmare that she cannot escape. As more and more strange things start happening around the old house, Meg doesn’t know who she can turn to. Can she confide in Wes, the mysterious and handsome boy who acts as a handyman for Aunt Belle? Or Doctor LaVane, Aunt Belle’s thorough but seemingly unfeeling physician?
While the characters in this novel do a great job of getting you into the story, it’s really the gorgeous attention to detail that will make you stay with it. Every little detail is described so intricately that you feel like you’re there with the characters. And the mysterious plot will definitely keep you guessing up until the very end. It’s no surprise that this was the novel to first get Cusick published.
Although this book falls under the Young Adult Horror genre, I think it’s a good read for anyone who likes any type of science fiction thriller. Although it is no longer in print, you can find used copies for sale on amazon, ebay, or bn.com. It is definitely worth hunting down.
