the devil and daniel johnston

i just saw this movie the other day. if you don’t know, daniel johnston is a severely bipolar musician. it was interesting watching it because about halfway through they start really getting into and showing video of how he is when he’s delusional and i almost felt like i was watching myself. luckily i’ve been doing extremely well while he is so fucked up that it’s screwed with his entire life. while i can’t say i highly recommend it, it was pretty good and if anyone is interested in seeing what schizoid manic is really like then it’s definitely the movie to see. my problem with the documentary was that it was too focused on painting daniel as a crazy genius and didn’t focus enough on how seriously screwed up he is. he writes some interesting music but because of his illness it’s of a really narrow scope. a lot of his music is written about a chick he became obsessed with and never had a relationship with like 25 years ago.

anyway, one of my old roommates moved back in so for right now i’m not horribly broke. except that we are working on paying a 600 dollar water bill and that’s taking all of my extra money. but that’s another story. i wish i wrote in here more. i guess i just haven’t felt like writing lately.
