Four computers and stuff that ain’t mine
At work I’ve got four monitors in front of me now, including this laptop: an XP machine with dual monitors, an all-in-one iMac next to it, and said laptop here in front, making sure everything else is doing its job. It’s kind of overload, and the first time I’ve ever felt "professionally geeky"; I’m used to dorking out at home and have fond memories of undergrad, but they’re actually paying me for this shit. The first thing I did was seek out a utility to let me have a different wallpaper on each of the monitors. Oh yes–my cubicle is a baptismal font from which the purest manifestation of Work Incarnate shall and does emerge.
Mainly what I’ve been doing over here is shuffling around the stuff that was here after they fired the other dude. There is a Dark Tranquility album in one of the drawers and over there some disc that says Tha Carter and Wayne on it. I have been content to usher them out of reach and sight. It all seems like a bit of a rented affair. If Japan works out (I’m still trying not to think about it) I’ll have something like three-and-a-half months left, not nearly enough time for me to have yet felt the pride of a snazzy twentieth of an office. (Right now, the extra monitors work great for when I’m playing Final Fantasy XI on the laptop and don’t want to switch back and forth between a browser and the game. I trust they are pleased with the value I have found in their equipment.)
This is just little correspondence today, to keep myself in the swing of it. Eventually I’ll become like I used to and start thinking of things to write about before I begin.
The Dow gained 500 points yesterday. I have it on good authority that 500 points is considerable.
You should be putting Tha Carter and Wayne up as your wallpapers instead of down in the drawer. I noticed that about The Dow too on the elevator yesterday after work and was sure I was just really tired and couldn’t see clearly.
