clunk

It’s taken a long time and been one of the most humbling processes I’ve ever been through, but, ladies and gentlemen, I officially have a job in New York City. It doesn’t pay for crap and they made abundantly clear that my work will be tedious, but I’d like to think all that will be made up for by the fact that I get to work here:

They have letters that Jane Austen wrote and a copy of the Gutenberg Bible. Remember that part in Catcher in the Rye where Holden Caulfield hangs out in the library? Me neither, but it was this library. I get to work in this library, shelving stuff and retrieving stuff and lifting stuff and sorting stuff. I might occasionally get to exchange a word or two with a member of the public. I can have practically all the fun of pretending I’m sort of a librarian without having to go to all the librarian school you have to go to if you want a job as an actual librarian.

Seriously, this is a really, really cool thing. Mostly because I’m no longer a bum and maybe I’ll stop being so bored with my life I could puke, but also because I get to work in the library.

Now all I need to do is get someone with a whole lot of money to love me, so that he or she can buy me this book I need for my senior thesis and/or a goliath bird-eating spider in a frame. Anyone?

You can either have the book or the spider. BUT NOT BOTH. Okay. Both. Fine. Have it your way!

Mwhahaa! To work in a library like *that*! I hate working in my college library…but I have a feeling I wouldn’t complain about working there. Good deal. 🙂

I am a library freak and yours is exceptional. My wife was a librarian at Stanford and we visited your new “home” a few years ago. A fabulous special collection! I hope you keep up your photography. You have an excellent eye and are technically very good. A great combo. Good luck and my very very best. xoxoxoxoxo
