Nice Weekend

Not a bad weekend, considering I slept most of Sunday.  I’m not sure why I was so tired, I was napping in my chair for literally most of the afternoon and early evening.  I was awake enough to eat some dinner and I was dead asleep by 10pm and I slept like a log.

I had a great Saturday.  I had an event at 6:30pm, so Mrs. Ender went to the Nats’ game and my stepdaughter used my ticket.  It’s probably the longest she’s been out of the house since Drew was born.  They had lots of fun, despite the Nats’ self destruction in the fifth inning.  Now, I’m supposed to be looking for extra tickets for a later game to which we can take stepdaughter and the baby daddy (hey, if he’d marry her I could call him her husband).

My old boss, former Cong. Mike Barnes, was receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Democratic Central Committee and a bunch of the old staff got together to make it a quasi-reunion.  It was so much fun.  I hadn’t seen most of the gang in nearly 20 years, and there were one or two that I’d not seen in nearly 30 years.

That’s our group photo for the night.  From left to right: Lennie, Ed, me, Carolyn, Brian, Mike, Keith, Bill, Cece and someone I don’t know (I think he might have been an intern at one time).

Me and Mike. I have an old photo of Mike and me from ’86 that matches this one, except that photo has two much younger guys instead of the two old guys.

It was so much fun catching up with the gang and there was talk of putting together a picnic of the old group.  If we can pull that off, it would probably be the highlight of my summer.  I had expected to be home by 9:30pm and I didn’t even leave the event site until 11:30.   Maybe it was all the adrenaline from the event that left me so worn out and tired on Sunday?

I dropped an application for a job posting in my old work group.  The job could be considered a bit of a downgrade from my current position, but I’ve thought it over and talked it over with my colleague who would be my manager and I can see some upside to the possibility.  Here’s hoping for good things from this application.

It got quite cold today and there is a frost/freeze warning out for tonight!  Doesn’t my calendar say that it is May?  Frost and possible freezing is not good for May flowers.

Other than that, I can’t think of anything else.

Ender is out.
