There is always two sides to a story

There is a local story in the news about a girl who didn’t make the cheerleading squad in fall last year and she was so upset about it that the school changed the rule and made it so that anyone who has an interest can participate. In some ways I think that is good. Do they really want a kid to end up committing suicide over cheerleading? It’s just cheerleading. Why does everything always have to be so exclusive? Just because a kid is bad at tryouts doesn’t always mean that they won’t ever be good. I sucked at volleyball at first but I got very good at it eventually.

The other side I see is should everyone who tries out make the team? It’s not fair to the kids who are good to have to have everyone who is not good drag them down. Also, how are these kids ever going to learn that you don’t always get your way in life and to deal with rejection? If they allow you to do this maybe you won’t go ahead and try something else that actually IS your thing? Who knows what you will miss out on if you aren’t taught to deal with rejection?

What I am trying to say is that there are always two sides to every story. I always try to look at both points of view objectively. In this case, both sides have some very good points. What is your take on this?

I can see both sides to this and most situations. But I agree more strongly with the last point of view in this case. There are always going to be things we want to be really good at but just aren’t. Rejection gives us a means to either get better or to continue the search for whatever makes us unique.
