I Must Get Back To Work

For the entire past week or two, I’ve been obsessed with the news, our Canadian boycott of American products and services. I cheered when Chrystia Freeland said retaliation tariffs will include a 100% tariff on Tesla. I’ve been so wrapped up in how the world is deteriorating before my eyes that I’ve been unable to work.

I’m still trying to establish relationships with Canadian printing companies, now possibly considering working with an Australia printing company. Their company is very new (only two years old) and I’m seeing some glitches in their website and one person said their shipping times are slow. I think it is because the Australian company already has working relationships established with printing companies in other countries, like Canada, and that is causing a slower shipping time maybe. In the end, I think that this Australian company is the way to go though.

Still trying to set up relationships with national (Canadian) distributor. Perhaps starting out, we may have to act as our own distributor and have shipments sent directly from the printers to stores we set up. It will be slower, smaller, and a heck of a lot more legwork, but I think it will be building a stronger business in the long run. Trying to do things economically as we struggle to launch with no government funding whatsoever (to remain completely in control of what we publish) and bootstrapping everything, it is definitely a headache at times. But overall, these are the days that will be remembered romantically as building from nothing, similar to Bezos in his basement; Gates in his garage; Jobs in his garage; –maybe I need a garage.

Until all the kinks are worked out of the process, I am just going to experiment with my own upcoming novels. When the logistics of printing and distribution are sorted out, then I will begin accepting submissions from other authors.

The only thing I know is that my savings are going to run out in August, so I better get back in gear and get something happening! I cannot bear the thought of having to job searching to work for someone else ever again.

Gates never worked out of a garage.  He had plenty of advantages growing up, like a mother who was on the board of directors at IBM, which gave him access to very very expensive computers at the time to hone his computer skills.    She also just happened to mention her son’s small time software startup “Microsoft” when IBM was looking for an operating system to drive their fleet of personal computers.

It’s nice to think that Gates built MS all by hard work and a dream… but really it was being in the right place at the right time.  Gates also made a brilliant move by keeping control of the OS and only licensing copies of the OS to IBM… which in hindsight cost IBM billions of dollars.

@psychoactive I totally forgot about that. Guess what I really needed was a mom with connections and the ability to program. lol.

Job hunting is an absolutely awful experience, full of small  as well as epic  humiliations.  I’m so glad that’s all over with now.
