stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it

That’s a lot funnier when Zorak is saying it.

I really need an evil mantis to zap annoying people for me right now, though. It’s not even that busy today, but they are getting on my nerves. Because everyone has a problem, and everyone wants me to hear about their problem in great fantastic in-living-color detail, and then they want me to fix it for them. Right now. No matter whether I actually have the power to fix their problem, or even if I have a thing in the world to do with their problem. I must fix it immediatly!!

I think a large part of my irritation is stemming from the fact that although Dr. Airhead has now officially resigned, he’s not really resigned, because they haven’t found a replacement for him yet. Since they haven’t found a replacement, he’s agreed to stay on month to month. And you know what? They aren’t going to be finding him a replacement before next spring. Because the Big Powerful Accreditation People are coming next spring. And the dean and ass’t dean had already begged and begged and begged him to delay retiring for that, and he’d agreed to stay until he had the falling-out with them and decided to retire/resign early. (They want him to stay so they can use him as a fall guy when things are revealed to be completely screwed up, I’m positive, but that’s neither here nor there.)Well, this is awfully convenient for them since they can just keep not finding a replacement, and he can just keep waiting for them to find one. Convenient for him too, since he already didn’t do anything and now he can REALLY not do anything, and he can come wandering in a couple of hours a week instead of a couple of hours a day to not do anything, and still get full pay for it.

And it’s convenient for the budget because now they don’t have to hire the extra person that we were promised last February since they already decided not to hire them till we got the new boss and the office was reorganized and the new person would have a clear-cut job that makes sense instead of having a third of what K and I do which is not at all clear-cut and makes no sense whatsoever. And of course that is the best thing for everyone. If we were in fact ever GETTING a new boss, and thus the new person. Which will now in all likelihood not happen until, oh, NEXT summer. If ever.

I’m pissed off because I had SUCH high hopes (and boy should I know better by now than to get high hopes about anything around here) that by fall semester I could be rid of student teaching. We’d have a new boss, we’d be reorganized, we’d have a third person in here and THEY could take over student teaching. Which I’m so sick of that I can hardly stand to look at anything having to do with it. But of course not. Of course not!!!

AAAGHHHH. And naturally ALL the 58,198,444 student teacher supervisors are calling/emailing me daily wanting to know what’s going on. Who is the new ass’t dean, when is somebody going to decide who the new ass’t dean is, why hasn’t anyone been made ass’t dean, who will be supervising what areas, who is going to take over for the five or six who aren’t going to be supervising anymore??? And when are all the meetings next semester and when is this and when is that and I just want to scream. Not only am I completely sick of student teaching and apparently not getting rid of it like I thought, now I have to hear incessant whining about what’s going on with it. Student teaching doesn’t even start for six weeks. Jeeze. Am I the only person in the world who waits till the very last minute to do everything?

Oh, good. The associate dean just came in to see if I have any idea what’s going on with the supervisors. As in who will be supervising where, since this year there’s some new regulation that they have to be certified in the same area of the students they are supervising. Well, THAT’S going to be interesting, since in the past they’ve been supervised according to what county they are student teaching in. One guy supervises in Wilkes, another does Caldwell, etc. Since there will be an array of student teachers in each county – elementary, art, pe, history, etc etc, that sounds like a complete and total disaster!! If they’re certified as principals they can supervise anyone, so that will help a few, but.. my god. We’re just careening madly towards disaster here, obviously.

And I am going home now. It is, amazingly, NOT RAINING outside, and I’m getting out of this House O’ Lunatics.

A walk in the non rain away from doctor airhead and looney ville sounds just what you need! I call my boss the “mini dictator”. She likes to micro manage. She doesn’t have a clue just how much she bugs me. I tune her out and try to ignore her which is hard because she is one of those people that seems to think she is extra special and never got out of the fantasy of her childhood that she is

omnipotent. She is very good at what she does and you would meet her and would probably really like her. I would say to you “it’s because you don’t work for her! That is why you like her!”

I have a good idea — calmly refer all student teacher supervisors to college administration. Once they get tired of all the zillion calls, they might just find a replacement for Dr. Airhead. Well, in a theoretical universe, anyway. I need a Zorak, too. He’s always been my favorite. I am waiting for you to write a book about your job. It would sell millions.

I love the bug!

The system is obviously upside down. You clearly need a sabbatical. And like those who must publish to keep their jobs, you must spend a year to write a novel sitting on a very quiet beach where they have never heard of property associations or organiztion by county.

I just came back to admit that I didn’t know who Zorak was, but now I do. These cultural gaps are huge embarrassments.

Makes me glad I’m not working anymore! It’s nice to read you again, I used to be Birdwatcher, returned once again.

Love your diary. Amazing you live in Boone, I want very much to move there. Used to go skiing there back in my younger and crazier days. There were lots of guys in kilts, surprised more didn’t show up in Boone. Usually camp in Valle Crucis as the Mast Family campground. It is so beautiful up there. Just love the mountains. So glad it didn’t rain Saturday. Has been raining a lot here too.

I don’t know who Zorak is.
