it.will.never.stop.raining
It has rained for three days solid. Rained HARD. I’m really really really tired of hearing rain pouring down. We’ve been under a flood watch and I guess we still are – my idiotic little Desktop Weather Icon is flashing orange at me, but it won’t open up and tell me what’s going on… oh, okay, there it goes. FINALLY. Yes, we’ve got a flood watch till tomorrow morning. It was originally until 11 this morning, then they extended it till 11 tonight. Ray Who Is Not A Meteorologist said we’d have sporadic showers these past two days, too. Liar.
We have a new stereo in the trunk of the car that has been there since WEDNESDAY because the rain won’t stop long enough to carry it inside. I peeked in at it today because it’s worrying me, leaving it the trunk so long, but it was dry and fine, all wrapped in plastic and foam. It’s probably drier in the trunk than it is in this damp icky livingroom. Our stereo was declared officially dead some time ago, so this is something we really need. The speakers are, I think, 430 watts so it should go a long way towards drowning out the Children Who Never Stop Screaming next door. I’d really like the rain to stop so we could bring it in and try it out.
Okay, since the rain has rotted my brain and wiped out anything of interest that I had to say, I’m going to do … a survey!!!! Swiped pretty much at random for the lack of thought it requires.
1. When you look at yourself in the mirror, what’s the first thing you look at?
My eyes to see how many more wrinkles I’ve developed since last time I looked in the mirror. And my hair to make sure it’s not doing that “I’ve just been electrocuted!!” thing.
2. What are you most scared of right now? That it will never stop raining and the roof will spring even more leaks than it already has and the bank behind the house will collapse and the whole house will slide down it. That’s not too far-fetched – it’s already slanting.
3. Are you lonely right now? Not at all. I had to deal with student teachers and supervisors ALL DAY LONG so I’m delighted to be all by myself right now. With just Stella and Colfax for company. Baker B went to bed long ago.
4. Been on radio/TV? Excuse me?? I first read this as asking if my radio or TV has been on. Talk backwards it is! Or sideways, I guess. My TV has been on – we watched Finding Neverland, finally, which I really liked. Been the radio on when I went to work this morning and listened to BBC World News on the public station. I’m ridiculously fond of the BBC World News, and I think it’s largely because I love to hear the newcasters talk. Oh, and they have real news about other parts of the world.
If you’re asking have I been on radio or TV – I was on TV very briefly when I was six or seven and was downtown with my mother and brother. She got stopped and asked something by the local news team. We got to see ourselves on the evening news, and it was quite exciting. I have no idea what question my mother was asked, but I still remember what I was wearing – a gold dress, a brown headband, a little horse pin and my cats-eye glasses. I was quite the little fashion plate, let me tell you.
5. Song that’s stuck in your head a lot: I get all sorts of songs stuck in my head. Lately I think the big head-stick-song for me has been one that’s on the Second Six Feet Under Soundtrack – a Coldplay song called “A Rush of Blood to the Head”. I have managed to never really listen to anything by Coldplay, and was under the impression that they were someone I would hate – but I LOVE this song. It’s got strange lyrics, and I do love strange lyrics. Perhaps I’ve been confusing Coldplay with some other sucky band.
6. What is the main ring tone on your phone? I foget what it’s called but it’s kind of an old-fashioned sounding ring. Not old-fashioned as in a NORMAL TELEPHONE RING WHICH ISN’T OLD FASHIONED BUT IS NORMAL, but like a brrrrrrrrring brrrrrrrrrring kind of thing.
I’m sure that’s such a realistic rendition that you were startled and wondering where on earth that phone is that’s ringing.
7. Piercing/Tattoos: I have pierced ears. SINGLE pierced ears. That’s it. I’m so not cool.
8. Favorite sports to watch: I seldom watch sports unless Baker B is watching basketball and it’s a very very important earthshattering game and he is pleased by my watching it too. I do at least understand the rules and like how they run back and forth nonstop. But I have to admit that I’ve been keeping up with the Red Sox lately – solely because they got made over on Queer Eye. Five of them did. So I actually recognize them and know their names. It’s quite shocking. Baker B watched a little of these latest games they were in, but even though I actually had someone to root for, it was so mind-numbingly boring that I had to have something else to do while half-watching.
9. Name the brand of your shoes you’re currently wearing? For god’s sake, it’s 20 after one in the morning. I’m not wearing shoes. Jeeze.
10. Bright or Dark Room? What??? This one is pretty dim. See above question. It’s VERY late.
11. What do you think about the person who took this survey before you? I think I don’t know a thing about them.
12. Do you alter questions on surveys if they are too completely lame or intrusive? I’ve been known to skip them. Like I’m considering doing now because this has become nearly as boring as watching baseball.
13. What were you doing at midnight last night? Trying to go to sleep. I’d just gone to bed.
14. What did your last text message you received on your cell phone say? I have never gotten a text message. I’ve never sent a text message. I don’t even know how.
15. What’s under your bed? Boxes of random stuff and dust. And probably some odds and ends of clothing.
16. Where do you want to get married? In a great big shiney white castle on top of a pointy mountain peak with stunning views and a moat full of champagne and all sorts of cute little Disneyesque creatures strewing flowers around. Wait… I already got married. In the Baptist church in Baker B’s hometown, of all things. Never mind.
17. Myspace.com or friendster.com? Should I understand what you’re talking about?
18. How many rolls of film do you need to get developed? I have to get exactly one roll developed tomorrow, because Idiot Girl who has been taking pictures since she was 13 is an idiot, and she didn’t realize that when the black protective cover stuff came unglued from the outside of her camera recently, and she could see the roll of film through the tiny little hole that was underneath the protective stuff, that perhaps that meant light could be getting into the camera too. So most of my Oz photos have a band of white across them. And the ones that don’t are very poor quality and overexposed. So I’ve got to put something over the little hole and take a roll of film and get it developed so I’ll know my camera is okay before going to LAS VEGAS with it. Yes, I’m a complete idiot. But at least I discovered this BEFORE going to Las Vegas where I’ve never been and am not likely to return to any time soon.
19. Your worst enemy: At the moment, it’s this survey – I’m tired of doing this!!!
20. What was the last thing you said to someone? I believe it was when I said, “I thought you wanted to go outside???” to Stella. Yes, I talk to the cats like they’re people. Or like they’re kids.
I also talk to the neighbor’s dog like she’s a person, and weekend before last I went out on our deck one night to see why she was barking, because she NEVER barks unless there’s a very good reason. So I’m out there having this conversation with Sophie, after discovering that the neighbors have left her alone, and she was whining out of loneliness – I’m saying things like, “Oh, poor little thing! Poor little Sophie, did your mommy and daddy go off and leave you, sweetie?? Awwww, I’m sorry, poor little thing! Don’t cry! Do you want to come over here, sweetie, and hang out with us? What a good girl!” etc etc, using that tone of voice you use with small children. And I finally turn around and look at the house on the other side of us, the one that is a weekend house where usually nobody is there, and of COURSE every light in the place is on and there are people out on the deck. Being highly entertained my my conversation with Sophie, I’m sure.
Oh, yay, I’m done!
* Random Noter * This entry was really funny. I was laughing my butt off at all of your hilarious comments!

We are now getting a major rainstorm, which started last evening (it will be pouring all weekend and rumor has it that it is part of a hurracaine system).

I hate rain myself…I’m even afraid to drive in it… I thought it was adorable you had that conversation with Sophie!!! If I’d been one of those neighbors, I would have came and joined in on the conversation. 🙂

Yippee ! I am so glad you like Finding Neverland. I have this terror that I will rave about a movie in my diary and then someone I like will see it, won’t like it and reevaluate how cool they thought I was and then it is a slippery slope for me to homelessness and hunger after that.

I have no earthly idea how to send a text message, either.

I think I want that type of marriage also. I love the song where Waylon Jennings sings about “someone left a cake out in the rain … I don’t think that I can take it cause it took so long to bake it …I’ll never have that recipe again … ohhh nooo” I also like Roger Daltry’s song “walking the dog” I guess I like weird songs too.
