home again at last
Back to the Land O’ Dial Up, where I intended to spend a few minutes catching up and now it’s two fifteen in the morning. Oh, well – I can sleep late tomorrow!!! I really probably should have gone into work today and tomorrow because now I’m going to have to take off even more days to go back down to get the car – but again, oh WELL. I’ve got an insane amount of vacation time built up, and I may as well use it. Especially considering what it will be like when J leaves. Next week. Between that and the Computer System from Hell, I really need to just go on an extended vacation. Starting now. I checked my email and have about ten zillion from people who can’t register for student teaching. Or who did register but are now un-registered. I don’t believe I mentioned staying late last Friday, because of getting a call at TEN TILL FIVE from the completely unhinged woman at the registrar’s office who wanted me to email all the student teachers and let them know that she’d have the system fixed by Wednesday so they could all get registered – or re-register. Or whatever. Judging from my recent emails from the student teachers, that worked about as well as everything else they’ve done with this system has worked. As in it didn’t work at all. At least I did set a vacation message and noted that we’d work out the registration "issues" when I get back. Ha ha ha. I’m forwarding every one of them to Completely Unhinged Woman, because I KNEW this would happen. Because she’s completely unhinged.
Why am I writing about work?? Work does not exist this week! Lalalalalalalalala!!!!!
Obviously we finally made it back. At about 10 last night. Via a nice little silver Nissan Sentra from Enterprise. Which took us most of the day yesterday to actually get. They picked us up but it took till nearly 2:00 due to one misunderstanding after another. But we have it. And State Farm did approve a new engine for us, which they will pay for. A new engine as in a used engine. Which still has 30 thousand miles less than our old one did. And IS a Honda, so should be a good engine. I hope. I guess it’s not likely they would spring for a brand new engine for an eight year old car. Still don’t know when exactly it will be ready, but I hope next week. Since the rental is pricey. Well, it’s pretty cheap as rentals go — AAA discount, and they didn’t have the economy car they promised us (we dealt with Confuso Enterprise, evidently) so they bumped us up to a Nissan for the economy price.
I am inordinately happy about ANOTHER trip to Charleston in a week or so. I really need to come into some major money so I can just buy a second home there. Right in the middle of the Historic District. Where I can spend my days wandering around taking pictures. I’m also happy that we can get my Civic fixed, and it’s not a goner. Because I love that car. The Sentra is quite nice, but I miss my Civic.
And I will admit Boone has made me very happy today by being nearly 90 degrees – which is certainly not the norm, but is my kind of weather.
Now I have to go finish my yogurt. Yes, I’m making yogurt at two in the morning. I realized today that instead of buying a bunch of yogurt I need to use my yogurt maker. Since it’s very easy and makes good yogurt. But of course I can’t start it at a reasonable hour. So, I’ll end with more pictures, in the Neverending Charleston Picture Parade:
The Dock Street Theatre. That’s Philip Glass on the posters. This poster was ALL OVER CHARLESTON. Everywhere you looked, there he was. I do have a very amusing picture involving this poster, but of course it’s not on Flickr yet.
One of my favorite buildings in Charleston. I have no idea what it is. Was. Whatever. I think I take a picture every time we walk by it.
The really really cool nifty neat Berlin’s sign on King Street. I’ve typed "sing" three times in a row and I think it’s officially time to get off the computer. It’s taken FOREVER to get these three up on Flicker so I can get the link. More later.
Nothing like a little revenge in the Land O’ Kafka! HAHAHAHA!!! I have got to go to Charleston. It’s beautiful.

Glad you’re home safe and sound. Great pics, expecially the first one. Makes me want to go play tourist.

I learned to drive in a Nissan Sentra. It was perfect. I know all about Philip Glass but have never seen a picture of him that I can remember. I love cobblestones. Those must be protected cobblestones. Ours are disappearing block my block. If everybody drove mini’s we could have cobblestones back.Hard on the bike riders though. Marvelous pictures!

RYN – I’m so glad you’re getting a new engine. I was already stressing on how you’d find a decent affordable car. I stress at any opportunity. Now I’ll have to find another target.

I meant to tell you, but of course I forgot, since I have advanced ADD, that my dad and his wife are looking for a house in Boone. I don’t know when/if they’ll move, since Dad’s adamant about getting market value for his house here, but they really, really want to move there. His wife’s kids all live in NC.
