england trip #3 -london
This will be mostly pictures because I can’t seem to get around to writing real entries. If I wait till I feel like writing something, I’ll never finish. Too bad I wimped out on NoJoMoWhatever- that would have been just the ticket for producing the required gazillion entries. Oh, well – here’s a bunch of pictures of Tower Bridge and our stroll down the Thames on the other side, as it was getting dark. Pictures are the fun part anyhow.

{and a note to add that I planned to post this last night, and maybe do another installment tonight. Because of course tomorrow we’ll head to A’ville for a very quiet Thanksgiving in which me, my dad and Baker B…. GO TO CRACKER BARREL. No, I’m not kidding. Unfortunately. It’s a result of originally planning to take my dad to Delaware to visit his sister, then realizing at the very last minute how horrendous the traffic would be, thinking, hey, we’ll fly!, then finding that of course fares are twice what they’d be any other time… and just postponing the visit till January. And by then my brother and his family had made other plans, involving my brother and SIL escaping their children for a trip to the beach. So… it’s the three of us. And Daddy is beside himself with delight at the prospect of a Cracker Barrel Thanksgiving. So… yippie. My original point — I couldn’t post this thanks to our idiot internet going down just as I was about to hit save. Maybe I’ll catch up over the weekend. Hahahahaha!}

I always think of this bridge as London Bridge, although I’m pretty certain I also knew better even before seeing it in person. The whole “London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down” nursery rhyme just makes you think of THIS kind of gothic, impressive bridge, as opposed to the actual London Bridge which isn’t nearly as breath-taking.
It has fantastic views, too. That’s the Tower of London, as viewed from Tower Bridge.
We planned to come back and go up to the top of the bridge, but never managed to do it.
We also planned to come back to the neat area on the south bank of the Thames, but we didn’t do that either! Other than to go to the Globe, but didn’t walk down the path by the river like we planned. Oh, well – next time! The evening we crossed Tower Bridge, we walked down to London Bridge so at least we got a little of that side of the river.
This one is London Bridge. It actually does look impressive at night, with its fancy light. In the daytime it’s pretty plain.
Of course it has fantastic views-
Okay, all for now. Next chapter… one day. Happy Thanksgiving to all the US’ers!
would love to see london in person but i never will cause i don’t want to fly over water. take care,

On our honeymoon, Lady Wife and I climbed one tower and walked across to the other along the upper walkways. The views were amazing.

Happy Cracker Barrel Thanksgiving! I’ve a feeling it might be memorable! I’m enjoying your trip to London immensely.

Don’t feel bad – Hubby and I are going to Black Angus for T’giving dinner—turkey and all the trimmings for $15.99—can’t beat that deal with a stick, and I won’t have to clean up after a turkey-cooking marathon.

You guys got a nice mix of weather and light, these evening and night shots are great. I like the mix of old and new you captured here. Hope you have an uneventful trip and an easy relaxed day with your dad. So weird these transitional holidays as things change.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Cracker Barrel has great food so I’m sure your dinner will be lovely. Wonderful pictures of London. It looks so much cleaner than when I lived in the UK.

Oh, I’ve learned something. I thought that first bridge was the London Bridge. Your pictures are spectacular, especially the night shots. They’re so crisp. I love pedestrian zones. I lived at the far end of the pedestrian zone in Heidelberg. They are so cozy and convenient.

Wow, Lady. You take some really fantastic pictures. And it’s always hard for me to go to a place and do everything I want to. Especially such a different place, and yet they still speak some form of English! I think I will like London. Someday.

We don’t have a Cracker Barrel here. It sounds yummy. I loved all the pictures. Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh, gorgeous! I love that shot of the tower surrounded by modern buildings.

In the 1500s, travelers entering London Bridge would see pikes with the heads of traitors. How cool is THAT? London looks a lot more glassy-and-steely than when I was there in 1968.

Absolutely stunning photos, per your usual, Beth.

Wonderful pictures. I always knew London would have plenty of old historic buildings, but the new modern buildings in your photos have been a surprise to me.

A Thanksgiving Without Cooking sounds just fine to me. Happy Belated one to you.

You are really covering a ton of ground and seeing fantastic views and all. It is even more beautiful there than I’ve seen from movies and books, etc. How could you possibly see it all in one, or even two trips? Looks like you’re doing pretty dang good so far. I have to laugh at my excitement over these entries, of course I could play it cool, but where’s the fun in that?!
