eeeekkkkkkk………….
Worst OD Friend Ever pops in for a second to say she’s about to be an even worse friend, if that’s at all possible… because, duuuuddee……
(refresh if necessary…)
TWO MORE DAYS TILL I AM ON THE PLANE TO LONDON!!! I am currently in Panic Mode even though there is not that much to panic about — at least not that’s within my control. I’m in that space where I just want to be on the plane. Or, more accurately, OFF the plane and THERE.
Baker B is being a trooper and making lists and thinking ahead and planning everything out for his stay in Devizes. Kim called me last night to tell me her suitcase currently weighs 21 pounds…. longtime readers may recall our first trip, in which Suitcase From Hell played a starring role, starting with her barely being able to pick it up and finding – when she got to my house and borrowed my luggage scale- that her massive enormous suitcase weighted 65 pounds. As we were leaving for the airport and already running late. So she’s knocked off, oh, nearly 45 pounds. And bought a little 21 inch one, ditching the gargantuan Suitcase From Hell. I’m hoping she’s bringing enough stuff but England does have shops. And she’ll certainly have a happier journey with a suitcase she can actually carry. So will I!
I am not packed yet. I do have a pretty firm idea of what I’m taking and I did put most of my clothes into my suitcase last night, but the bed is FULL of odds and ends. That must be taken care of tonight. We also have to pack Baker B’s suitcase and make sure he can get by with one to check and no carry-on other than his big backpack.
I have many lists, because lists make me calm. Until I start reading them and then I freak out.
I remember this stage from last trip — moving from the OMG OMG EXCITEMENT!!! stage into the OMG PANIC I JUST WANT TO BE THERE stage.
It does not help that I am slightly ILL. I actually stayed home from work yesterday — and felt too bad to do things I needed to do, like, oh, PACK. I think I have a sinus infection, and I’m going to the doctor tomorrow. Which is not something I EVER do for things like colds or mild sinus infections, but OMG WE’RE FLYING OVERSEAS DAY AFTER TOMORROW!!! and if it’s a sinus infection and not a cold I probably need antibiotics. I’m not THAT sick, just enough to feel slightly icky and have no energy. I went to Asheville last weekend and Daddy was sneezing and snorting and hacking and said it was allergies — then kept feeling worse and worse, as I developed OCD and bathed everything around me in hand sanitizer and lysol. And I still got it, apparently. It’s been weird, not really like a cold, but I do have a very runny nose and am sneezing a little, along with having an achy face. Yesterday I had a little fever, hence the staying home from work. It hasn’t moved to my chest like colds tend to do, and I haven’t had a sore throat- just a slightly scratchy one. So I think it’s a sinus thing. Which is probably why Baker B hasn’t caught it – he doesn’t have allergy issues and it sounds from my WebMD reading like a sinus infection isn’t terribly contagious unless you’re already Queen of Allergies like I am.
Anyhow, at least I got it early enough to start recovering and at least I didn’t get something seriously trip-killing like a stomach bug or pneumonia. I had a terrible cold last time we were in London and hardly noticed, thanks to travelling with a nurse who could steer me to the good OTC drugs. And Baker B did not get it – at least so far and I’m sure by now he’d have it too, it apparently has a very short incubation period — which would be WAY worse, as it’s his First Big Trip.
OMG!!! This is SO exciting, and I am trying to focus on the exciting and not feel overwhelmed. It really helps that I have done this before- but I think I’m nervous for Baker B. Who is doing a fine job preparing, and who actually CAN take care of himself. (He’ll be ALONE the first week, hiking around Devizes – Crop Circle Central– while Kim and I are in London. Meaning he has to DRIVE HIMSELF there.) (At least we did rent an automatic this time, and I also found some YouTube videos of navigating roundabouts. And he can really prepare and map his route out with Google Earth)(If I did it, I’m SURE he can. He won’t crash the car… he won’t crash the car…. )
Time to go. I may get to update quickly while there… although Baker B has (wisely, I might add) forbidden me from updating on FB and letting the whole world know that we’re gone for two weeks across the ocean and hey! Come rob our house! Which has exactly nothing of value other than a new HD TV that is so small we only paid $300 for it, a desktop PC that several years old now, and my laptop which is only a year old but quite frankly is being a bitch lately and is going to have to go to the Computer Hospital when we get back. The only truly valuable things are the cats, and no burglar would EVER find them.
EEEEKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a wonderful trip…

Have fun and bring a warm jumper! It might well be cold here next week. Or we might get a bit of summer. The climate is full of possibility! Take care,

Deep Breath… Oh the cats will miss you, as we will too. Is that even a sentence? I am so glad someone will be having fun in London on my birthday. You must keep going regularly so that eventually I’ll be able to meet you there. Best wishes for a miraculous recovery and an absolutely stupendous trip. Enjoy! The whole Baker B. element is so cool.

I don’t think it’s a sinus infection. It sounds like a Zombie Infection. You are going to spread it overseas! Have an excellent trip! Take tons of pictures.

Everything will be good. Kudos to Kim. 🙂 Baker B sounds the least stressed and that is the last thing I expected. 🙂 Everything will be fine. Post lost of pictures on Flicker and make sure we have regular FB updates. There’s a way to do this without spilling the beans. 🙂 Safe travels…see you when you’re back in the States!
