digital!!!! digital!!!! digital!!!!!!!!!
Well, I have at last joined the digital world – and I think I’m going to wonder what took me so long. So far, I LOVE the camera – although I’ve played with it until I’m exhausted and am getting a headache and I really really need to step away from the camera/computer for a bit. And apparently I’m going to need to get some rechargable batteries because mine are already low.
I’m also having some problems with the whole “delete” thing. In fact, I kept worrying about what to take my first picture of – I was in a not-so-pretty spot at UNC-Greensboro and looking around thinking, “no, no, that’s not a good picture! No, neither is that!!!” When I just needed to see what they LOOKED like, not win the Pulitzer Prize for Photography. Or whatever.
And just getting it was an ordeal. I decided yesterday what I wanted, and ordered it online from Best Buy because they had an online special for $25 less than the store price. And I could just pick it up in Greensboro today, since I was going down there with Baker B for his conference. No problem, I thought. Naturally, it turned into a huge problem, because I never got a confirmation email. You have to have that confirmation email when you do an online order. The confirmation email is supposed to take like 45 minutes, or at the MOST five hours if you applied for a credit card, which kind of stupidly I did. I think I thought they had a no-interest thing going, but that was for cameras over $300, and this one was just $200. Pre-online-sale.
Well, I didn’t have a confirmation email last night and I still didn’t have one this morning, but they had the camera in stock at that store so I figured surely they could just let me have one of those. Ha ha. The customer service girl actually thought so too, and she went and got one and tried to ring me up – and it wouldn’t let her because I didn’t have the confirmation email. She let me check my email on one of their computers, and STILL no confirmation email. It was around noon then and I’d ordered it at maybe four the previous day. Certainly more than five hours ago. I had to pick Baker B up at three, so I thought, well, I’ll go get something to eat, and I’ll just go check Circuit City to see how much theirs are. Because they DO have a no-interest thing going, and it would probably be worth it to just buy it there and pay more but get the no-interest thing.
SO Circuit City does have it, and it’s the same price as not-on-line Best Buy – but the guy can’t find it. They have two in stock, and he can’t find either one of them. I wait around FOREVER while he looks and looks and looks – and finally say, why don’t I just come back by later??? Which pleases him, since he thinks maybe they just haven’t been unloaded from the truck yet.
SO I go back to Best Buy, check my email one more time, still have no confirmation letter, and end up just buying it there for the not-on-line price.
Of course, tonight I finally did get the confirmation letter.
But WHATEVER, I have the camera! And here are some of my very first pictures – I haven’t quite figured out how to make them less than 100,000,000 MGs or whatever they are, so I’ve only got three that I’ve managed to make slightly smaller. And of course two of them are my usual weird photos so it’s a little hard to tell what they even are, especially the first one which is a table with pumpkins in a restaurant window with reflections all over the place:
This is some random building at UNC-Greensboro.
After I took this one one of the shopowners came out to the sidewalk and said, “Are you with US Weekly???” So apparently I looked like I knew what I was doing.
And I need a pumpkin ale about right now, so I’m out of here!
I used to have a darkroom, but digital is the way to go. I used Paint Shop Pro for editing. It has a lot of nice features. I have Photoshop too, but haven’t devoted a lot of time learning it. I shoot my poster photos with a digital….www.yart.org have fun!

i’m so glad you’re loving it! there should be a setting in your camera’s menu to change the resolution (size), but if you have any thoughts of enlarging or say, making calendars for christmas gifts, you need all the resolution you can get. i’d leave it at the full 4 megapixels and use your software to reduce the size, but make sure you save the smaller image in a different file so you don’t…

Oh Boy! What a drag though about the hassle getting it. I have also had people think I was with the media because I take pictures of weird things and do things like get on he ground for a particlar angle. As these are your first shots we are in for a major treat.

I appear to have lost the ability to type properly this morning.

For me, the beauty of a digital camera is that I can take many, many photos and only print the ones I love. Plus I save the decent ones on my hard drive and delete all of them from the camera and start over.
