bwwwwaaaak, bwwwwaaaaak, BWWWAAACCKK!!..
When I wrote about the football game I was (bizarrely) watching last Friday, and joked about how at least the Spiders had a more menacing name than the Fighting Blue Hens, I had no idea that we’d actually be playing the Fighting Blue Hens THIS Friday for the Big Final Last Game Super Major Ultimate etc etc etc Championship. I’ve just always found that a very amusing and non-threatening name for a football team – I mean, honestly – are you struck with deepest terror at the thought of the Fighting Blue Hens? That will, like, flap their wings at you sinisterly? And what kind of name is hens for a bunch of macho football players, anyhow?
I thought that was a little strange. I only even know who they are because Baker B’s niece went to the University of Delaware. And a cousin lives near the University, so I’ve been on the campus once or twice. Then I mention them jokingly, and ZAP – next thing I know ASU is in a showdown with them.
Which we won, incidentally, so we’re Conference Champions yet again. I say "we" as if I really care, but actually even I can’t help to be slightly interested. It’s the first time a team has won three in a row in sixty-some years. And I do love history. Baker B watched it and I semi-watched it, getting tips on things like what exactly a "down" means – apparently you run till you fall down, and then you keep doing that until it’s the other team’s turn. Or something.
Now everyone can go home for the break, which will be very very nice. Usually campus clears out by the third or fourth day of exams, but this year exams were over and there were STILL people everywhere and no place to park. It took me quite some time to realize they were hanging around for the Big Game.
In other exciting news, there’s not much. Kim is coming up tomorrow, which will be fun. It’s supposed to snow and ice and be icky tomorrow, which will not be fun. Especially if it’s still going on Sunday, when I have to work graduation. We’re still waiting to see what sort of break we’ll get in our office, with the New Disastro System, which has something major wrong. Well, of course it has lots of somethings wrong, but now there’s yet another Big Issue that the registrar’s office won’t tell us about directly, but we’ve kind of figured out by the way we’re not getting stuff we were supposed to get early this week. And they are making very round-about, la-de-da excuses like it’s no big deal. Something’s up.
And the kittens are still barrels of fun. They are beside themselves with excitement tonight, because for the first time they’re not having to spend the night shut up in the spare bedroom. Since Kim will be here tomorrow night it seems like a good time to give them the run of the house all night. Of course, Stella is hiding under the bed in protest. We moved their litterbox down to the basement with hers and put their food out here with hers and they feel like they are Big Cats now.
Edgar did do a very weird thing last night. I looked into the bathroom and noticed him getting into an odd position, and realized he was peeing on the bathmat. It was very strange – I of course shrieked NO NO EDGAR!! BAD CAT!!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING???!!??!! and grabbed him up and stuck him in his litterbox. But I couldn’t figure out why on earth he’d do something like that. The litterbox was clean, he’s never done that before, as far as we know, and I think we’d smell it if he had. And I know he uses the litterbox, because I see him in it. Why would he suddenly use the bathmat? Then it occurred to me that he knows what we use the toilet for. And he’s often acted quite interested in the toilet. And the bathmat is right in front of the toilet. And when he was in the act, he was looking at us like, "Hey, watch what I’m doing, guys!!!"
Edgar seems a little scarily smart sometimes. He hasn’t done it again, so hopefully he’s realized that’s NOT what the bathmat is for, even if you can’t manage the toilet.
No, it’s a 1998 Indiana University men’s choir that must be ADHD.

Edgar sounds like a riot. Take care.

Murphie’s pee pad is close to our bath mat in the bathroom and for what seemed the LONGEST time, Jesse would pee on the bathmat. He finally stopped, and I wish I could tell you what did it but even I don’t know. Maybe it’s just that the pissin’ contest is over.

Edgar sounds like a very smart cat. I have heard you can train a cat to use the actual toilet. I just wonder if they flush?
Warning Comment
Smart animals are totally not a good idea. Trust me on this one.

Oh! I have no idea why a kitty would do that! Unless there’s a plastic base to it. Sometimes they will pee on plastic bags or backpacks or things like that because they are sensitive to the plastic in the makeup of the article.

Or it could be something got tracked in on the bathmat that made him all like territorial, in a macho blue hen kind of way. Congrats to the kittens for being Big Cats now! Hope the graduation is easy to get to and remarkably uneventful.

dolly pees in the bathtub!

RYN:That hello kitty store sounds cool. We have something like that, but it’s a bit far out. I bet it is a bit crazy down there. We won a few years back and it was great 🙂 What does your cousin do down here?

I swear we’re the same person in alternate universes. I joke about a local team in Farmersville-the Fighting Farmers. Damned if they didn’t beat my new hometown in the state semifinals. Karma. Gotta be. Wish my kittens were Big Cats…..
Warning Comment
Yuck! I hope that is the last time your cat does that. It is hard to know what cats are thinking at times.
Warning Comment
I think our animals sometimes think that getting bad attention is still attention. Cheer up – better the bathmat than the living room rug!

RYN: Nikki’s fine with it all. More worried about the practical side of things – i.e. will I still be able to roll out of bed 20 minutes before work; will we be near enough to work so that I can come home at lunchtime & watch the telly; will my bedroom be big enough for all my stuff; things like that! Emotionally she’s never been close to Boyd so I think will only miss the practical side of him- fixing the car etc!! I just hope we get somewhere we like – I’m glad I’ve been looking around – it’s given me an idea of what areas to concentrate on first when the money does come through. Some of the places we’ve seen have been fine & are basically affordable but it’s kind of a limbo time just now – no-one is adding their property to the market because it won’t sell so we just have to sit & wait.

Oh poor Edgar – he must have thought he was progressing bigtime in the toilet stakes! Mind you better it was the bathmat than the toilet – doesn’t bear thinking about if he’d got up there!
