Rumors of My Demise, Some Medical News & More

…have been greatly exaggerated.

I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated. It seems like that’s happening more and more lately.

Let me say that this is NOT for lack of things to talk about. A ton of stuff has been going on, and when you’re a writer you have to prioritize the things you’re going to write. Take solace in the fact that this diary is not the only thing that has suffered.

Classes are going okay. I think I’m going to make it out of this 8-week magazine writing class with my sanity still intact, though I am becoming more and more frustrated as the class progresses. I’m glad it’s ending soon.

The other two classes are cool. I’m actually emerging as a pretty good column writer in that class and I’m enjoying my stint as a sports columnist for the campus paper.

I’ve had a few medical scares in the past few weeks too.

Marci has been having a stomach problem for about a month and after extensive tests, it’s been determined that her gallbladder isn’t functioning properly. Luckily, it doesn’t seem to be a serious problem, as she hasn’t been debilitating at all, and she hasn’t been scheduled for an immediate follow-up appointment.

The other medical scare came from Lillian. I was at school waiting for my ride. After 30 minutes, no one showed, so I called home and was told that someone was on the way and that we had had an emergency.

Jeff picked me up and told me that during some x-rays, the docs found something in her throat. They immediately diagnosed it as a tumor and began talking about chemotherapy, fatality rates and the like.

Well, the next day, they did a CAT scan and determined that it was NOT a tumor, but there is some sort of tissue there constricting her airway.

She’s going back in soon so they can do an endoscopy, (which means they’ll stick a camera down her throat).

Don’t worry too much….All the fatal stuff has been pretty much ruled out, and other than noticeable breathing sounds, Lilly is as curious and energetic as always.

But did she freak me out!

Marci will be here on the 14th to spend her Spring Break with me. We will finally be going to Alcatraz, and we have a Kings game and Lilly’s birthday to attend.
