Re: Annonymous Noter, and other stuff

Yes, the online group I belonged to was BUS. It was very helpful, but then became a little overwhelming.

So. My dinner date with Jay ended up being My Dinner Date with Jay, Jen, Matt, and Donnie. *sigh* I mean. It was nice to see them but. I wanted/needed some Jay time. Plus, I *just* got home and it’s nearly ten pm. Ugh.

But. If I don’t know the stuff by now, I’ll never know it. Let’s see if I can name them again….

Upper Resp Drugs=
Antitussives which suppress the cough reflex(Codeine, Benilyn)

Antihistamines which block histamines(benedryl)

Decongestants which decrease secretions, decrease swelling, and decrease something else. And there are three types. Topical Nasal (Afrin), Oral (pseudoephedrine), and Topical Nasal Steroid (Beclovent, Flovent).

That’s three.

Expectorants which liquefy secretions making them easier to cough up (guaifenisen) and

Mucolytics which break up tenacious secretions (Mucomyst) Which is also used for tylenol OD.

Yay. Okay, now Lower Resp Drugs= (which basically either decrease swelling or cause smooth muscle relaxation.)
Xanthines (Theo-Dur, Slo-Bid) have a therapeutic range of 10-20 and above that they can cause brain damage and death, smokers need higher doses because smoking increases the biotransformation. Decreases renal and GI blood flow.

Cromolyn (Intal) has sympathetic effects, increases bp, p, etc. This one blocks histamines from being produced (others work to lessen histamines that’ve already been produced)

Nedecromin (Tildal)

Sympathomimetics (Albeuterol) decreases renal and GI blood flow. Has sympathetic effects.

Anticholinergic Bronchodilators (Atrovent)

Inhaled Steroids (Beclovent, Aerobid). Steroids are anti-inflammatories.

Ok that’s 6. One more.

Leukotrene Antagonist Receptors (Accolate). These you need to watch pt’s with glaucoma, head injuries, cardiac problems or elevated BP. I think.

Ok. Now let me go get my notes and see if I was right.
1. Decongestants also decrease blood flow to the URT.
2. Xanthines don’t decrease renal and GI blood flow, but they can lead to tachycardia and seizures and other stimulants should be avoided.
3. Sympathomimetics also need to watch for cardiac, BP, and they can be used in an attack.
4. Anticholinergics cause urinary retention and CNS effects
5. Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists are a newer classification and are for the prevention and chronic tx of asthma.

Not too bad. I’m going to mess up on side effects, cuz they’re all so similar. But I know the basics. I need to look over superinfections and stomatitis and nephro and hepatic and I should be ok. I’m pretty good with multiple choice if there aren’t a ton of trick answers. I think I’ll study til 11 and then go to bed.

in my experiences, the information on the bus website is helpful, but any conversation that ends up taking place between members involves more drama than i’m willing to deal with. i believe, in many situations, hanging out with a bus-type crowd can actually be counterproductive to one’s mental wellbeing.

Didn’t take the test but I read the possible results and this is my favorite: “You are 100% male. You make cowboys look like pussies.” I’m thinkin they haven’t met the cowboys I’ve met in West Hollywood! nyuk.. nyuk… -bc
