The Forgotten Victims
I’m calling the pets of the wrath of Hurricane Katrina this. So many have been left behind because they weren’t allowed on the buses or people weren’t able to take them with them. I, myself, feel so strongly that I would rather die with my pets than leave them confused and scared. My heart just couldn’t take it. With all the charities advertised on television, I haven’t seen any for the animals. I’ve donated to Noah’s Wish. They specifically help in disasters such as these. I have emailed them to see if they have any ties in Florida. If they don’t, I would be interested in helping them establish some volunteers here, as well. I’ve also volunteered my services for transport of the animals that have been rescued. I wanted to do more than just donate money. This has touched my heart so deeply. Animals, especially dogs, hold a special place with me. I saw a photo from the LA Times that was so sad. Some 150 animals had to be evacuated from an animal hospital and some were on a bus. There was one dog that looked so sad, I cry now even thinking about the poor soul. And the story about the little boy having his poodle, Snowball, taken away from him by police is just heart wrenching. They wouldn’t allow the dog on the bus. The boy cried until he vomited. It’s just horrible. So, if you can, donate to some animal shelters, too. If not Noah’s Wish(www.noahswish.org), then one of your choice. I know they need all the help they can get.
