Mixed Emotions

I have a good friend that has one male dog and two female dogs.  For some reason, Duke doesn’t like her two female dogs at all so either Duke or her two dogs have to be locked up at some point.  Her puppy is turning one and this weekend we’re having a party at the park to celebrate.   Duke will be 12 a few days later. I think it’s just because Duke has gotten older becasue they got along about a year and a half ago.  Anyway, when we go back to her house, Duke is going to have to be locked up almost the whole time.  She sent me an email saying since it WAS her dog’s birthday that she didn’t want to have her locked up a lot of the time.  I can understand that but it just hurt.  I almost felt like saying that I should just leave him at home.  He adores the male dog, though.  Sometimes, it seems like she’s one of those “it’s all about me” people.  Anyway, that comment made me sad and now I feel blah.  I’m not looking forward to it near as much as I was.  Am I being over sensitive?  I can’t think of any other solutions.  He growls at her one dog almost as soon as he sees her.  I hate that Duke is getting so old.  I’m hoping I’ve got a few more years with him before he has to leave me.  An eternity would be too soon.

i wonder why duke has changed his attitude about the girl dogs? i have heard that animals sometimes change in temperment as they get older. maybe that’s what’s going on? i think your friend should have waited to see how the day with dogs went before she said anything to you about locking him up at her house. take care,

Im considering putting Snoopy on medication for agression towards other cats. I hear that it works for dogs too but with Duke being 12 I would hate to try it. I hope you have years and years with Duke. I still cant beleive Figaro is gone.

I can only imagine how much you will miss Duke. Thanks so much for your note. It’s good to see you back. It’s been a long time. Take care,

I understand what she meant, but the way she came across saying it would have hurt my feelings, also. Poor Duke. And he’s such a beautiful boy 🙂
