whatever

She sat with her feet hanging over the edge of the dock, feet touching the water, watching the sun set.  She had sat in that same place so many times before, but that night felt different.  That night was different, she was different.  Thoughts raced in her mind, her breathing shallow, her heart beating slowly but pounding on her chest with every beat.  The air was crisp and grew colder as the sun sank lower into the water.  It wasnt long before she could see her breathe in the air, making everything seem to freeze in time.

The moment came when the sun sank into the water completely and darkness surrounded her.  The cold air stinging her lungs with every breathe and chilling her body inside and out as she sat there.  Still at the edge of the dock, still at the edge of the water.  She closed here eyes and imagined the sun was rising.  With its warm colors and promise of something new, the chance to start again.  She opened her eyes to her reflection, dark in the water.

Nothing warm. Nothing new.  One last breathe and the darkness was gone.

She had sat there, at the edge of the dock, feet touching the water, watching the sun set so many times before.  Then the moment came.  The sun slowly began to rise, spreading its warm colors and light across the water.  The light seemed to offer the chance to start again, like a promise of something new.  But she couldnt see the colors or feel the warm light anymore.

She had watched the sun set so many times before.  She never believed in a day when she couldnt watch it rise again.
