Songwriting

I never realized how hard it can be to write songs for other people when they’re genre of music is different from what you usually listen to/write. I write R&B songs and this guy wants me to write a few rock songs for his band. Now …I’ve written songs for other people, I’ve collaborated with other people, but they’re genre of music was the same as mine so there was no conflicts.

But here, I am having trouble visualizing what this band actually wants. I told the drummer (that’s who I was talking to) that I wasn’t sure if he’d like the songs that I would write since I’m not used to writing those types of songs, but I’m going to try it anyway. You never know, I might surprise myself.

Right now, I’m finishing up a song that I’ve been stuck on for about 2 days. I’ll probably post it later to get your guys’ judgements on it. I received good reviews on my last song when I posted it on a songwriting forum. I’ve also received good reviews from people at Livejournal.com so I must not be too bad LOL

A friend of mine suggested I take my songs to a record company to get them sung by a professional. I would love to do that, but I wouldn’t know how about doing that. But I do know I’ve always wanted Toni Braxton/Brandy/Brian Mcknight to sing one of my songs cause they all have wonderful voices. Who knows? Maybe one day they might. *smiles*

For now though, I’m satisfied in sitting here, typing out what I’m feeling in my songs and adding them to the collection of songs I have in my folder.
