No Place to Breathe

There is no place for the soft voices of sense,

No place for ears that listen to truth.

Lost in leaves that spiraling turn in the wind,

Forgetting commitment in their spinning whirl.

Yet tongues come forth speaking loud and sharp,

Baring bluntly the labels of their lives,

Wearing God as a cape of glory,

And faith as a red carpet to fame.

These masks for human desire.

And rush to action they go,

Never stopping to check for directions.

Or suit up, they will, in tradition and culture,

Shining in armor of "the way things are."

Rushing to fight for a system, a habit,

Never stopping to define their reality.

Because there is no place for the soft voice of reason.

We haven’t ears to hear the truth.

So quickly and smiling we jump to gain an answer.

But we never stop.

Just stop.

To be quiet,

And still,

To breathe in air and let it out.

Why does it feel like I have to decide everything right now?

Be still and know that He is God.

In the midst of this rushing, spinning world

I just want to breathe for a moment,

And take comfort in His time.
