My First Acident

So I was backing out of my drive way….now before you jump to any conlcusions hear me out! I have three roommates. Me and another roomie part inside the garage. One roomie parks in the drive way, and the other on the street. The drive way-parking roomie NEVER parks behind the side of the garage that I ALWAYS park on. So, needless to say, I’m backing out like I always do, knowing her car will be on the other side of the drive way. Well, I was not so lucky tonight! For whatever reasons, she parked directly behind me. It being dark, visibility is not as good as usual, and because of the incline of the drive way looking in my rear-view mirror doesn’t show me her car, only looking in SIDE mirrors does. So as I glance in my rear-view mirror, I don’t see anything, which is what I expect because NOTHING is ever behind me. Needless to say I bump into the front of her car. The fact that something stopped me was more shocking than the impact. I thought I’d hit the trash can or something, and then I realized it was her car.

I honestly assumed nothing would be wrong because the impact was so minor. Turns out it knocked off her liscense plate and dented her hood in. Oops. I don’t really know how to feel. I mean, it really stinks that her car got damaged…but I don’t feel bad about it, in the sense that I don’t feel like I did something wrong. Granted, I could have checked my side mirrors just to be extra careful…but why would I? NOTHING IS EVER BEHIND ME!!! Ah. She’s upset with me, I know, but I don’t know what to tell her except, "here’s the number for my insurance and the claim number." She’s not the easiest person to deal with and we have yet to have any real confrontation. I wish there was somewhere else I could sleep tonight…she and I share the same room. Eeks. Hope she doesn’t try to smother me in my sleep, lol.

Oh well. Thank God for insurance! That’s all I can think of to cheer me up.
