tides

We flow like tides, now
ebbing and flowing and brushing up
against the other’s shores
picking up silt, shells and sand
and depositing it
elsewhere.

Everything changes,
but change doesn’t have to be
monumental. We add a layer of
dust to the edges
become more polished over time
our rocks bump into each other
and remove flawed chips,
leaving smoothed edges.

We wander each other’s rivers
and head upstream
constantly making headway and
uncovering new territory –
virgin lands and untouched landscapes
fit for taking.

We move each other – not with blasts or explosions
but gentle rocking.
Fingertips on the back of a shoulder –
a light pressure on the arm
a casual brush of a leg.

We move each other now and have
No warnings.
I’m accustomed to swimming in your current
And you are familiar with my terrain.
There is no cause for danger, apprehension or doubt.

Lover, I’m home…
Come exploring in my darkest corners
And bring me the light.
