3rd date, hope and movie review *edit*
Friday was our third date, me and Spike, otherwise known as me being submitted to the “best friend test”. I was specifically invited over to her best friend L’s house for a game night. I was nervous, having previously been informed that L is very over-protective and kind of a firecracker. I didn’t know what to expect. I arrived on time (meaning 7 minutes early) and parked out front of Spike’s apartment to wait for her while she finished getting ready. She got in the car, for the 2 minute ride (they live in the same apartment complex) and gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She still wasn’t feeling great, and had a slight fever. When we first arrived at L’s house, it was a little awkward. I’m not great in social situations to begin with, especially surrounded by a group of people I don’t know who have all known each other since pre-high school. They cooked burgers, and we ate, and I listened to everyone talk mostly. Made friends with the dogs. And the cat. When we got to game time, a little over an hour later, I was paired up into a team with M, who I had never met, and the game was Cranium, which, if you don’t know, has a lot to do with making an ass of yourself, in front of a room of strangers I really kinda wanted to impress, paired up with someone I didn’t know. At all. So it was slightly awkward, but funny. I watched Spike a lot. I watched her interact with her friends, and got a feel for her that I couldn’t get when we were just one on one. After Cranium stopped, we decided to play Catch-Phrase, which was a lot more fun. I took a few videos during the night cause it was so damn funny.
When I woke up on Sunday, she had already messaged me (it had become rather rare for me to hear from her first, at least while she was sick). We talked off and on all day. She asked me out for Sunday coming up – finally get to do our movie date, at my house – all day. She told me I scored big points with L, because on Saturday, I took the time to message L (she had added herself to my blackberry messenger) and tell her thank you for specifically invited me over, and that I had a good time. Spike told me that went a long way with her, that she was impressed, and that I passed the first inspection with flying colors – which is apparently, very rare. She told me that she kinda missed me. Went out of her way to talk to me. That made me feel good. I’m looking forward to Sunday. It will be our first time to spend time together alone, not out in public, in one of our homes. I’m not really sure what to expect, but I imagine that it will be fun, no matter what. We’re both big movie people, and combining our tastes should be fun.

On “the Black Swan”
I went and saw Black Swan by myself on Saturday night, and was awestruck by it. The soundtrack was phenomenal. The shots and the fact that there is not a single shot in the movie that does not contain a reflective surface was amazing. The movie is shot all in hues of grey, white and black, even though it’s in color – but the use of color, especially vibrant color is very deliberate and intense. I loved it. I could have watched it several times back to back with no interruption, and I still don’t think I would have caught everything there is to see. It was haunting and beautiful and…hot. Gratuitous lesbian sex scene between two very hot women notwithstanding, it was a beautiful film, and I definitely want to add it to my movie collection when it comes out on DVD. I thought Natalie Portman’s performance was breathtaking and astounding. Winona Rider in her minor role was brilliant. And Mila… well she’s one of my new favorites. You never really catch what’s happening, what’s in the real. Still now, I’m not sure what was real, or actually happening, and how much was a projection of Natalie’s thoughts and beliefs. It was a beautiful mind-fuck movie without even really expecting one. Everything about the movie was deliberate and intense. And it still left me wanting more when it was over. I want the soundtrack, all of it being part of and variations of “Swan Lake” which the story revolves around. I haven’t been blown away by a movie like that since I saw Inception. I wasn’t expecting it from Black Swan, but I got it anyway. I highly recommend it – to anyone, anytime. And I would almost insist you see it in a theatre just for the impact, but it would probably work at home too. Besides, that way, you can always hit the rewind button for the more…um…intense scenes. I’m going to have to do that, actually.
*edit*
so…after writing this, I’m talking to Spike a little bit…and among a lot of really wonderful tidbits, she tells me that she doesn’t think she can wait until Sunday to see me…so how would I like to come over Thursday for some dinner (she’s cooking pasta, which is about all she can cook) and a movie.
This is me doing a major, MAJOR happy dance. Right now. Yep.
I haven’t seen that one (Black Swan). I’ll see if I can go next weekend. It’s fun, falling in with a new circle of people, and a little disconcerting too. For me, anyway. Thanks for the notes, I appreciated them.
