Finished!
I had my last class of graduate school on Monday, so now I am officially done. All the paperwork is turned in for graduation, and I have done what I could towards my certification…I will finish that up after my final transcripts have posted, and then I will be a certified professional school counselor!
It feels great to be finished, but I’m having a hard time enjoying it because I don’t have a position lined up for next year yet. It is a very slow year for multiple reasons…my supervisors and professors keep telling me that I will get a job even if it takes all summer, but that really doesn’t make me feel much better. I have never felt so stressed out in my life, and I just really hope I find something soon. It will really suck to spend the entire summer feeling this way. If I can get a job this month, then I’ll be able to enjoy the summer and get ready for the school year. Tonight I spent a long time coming up with a long list of schools to send my resume to…I’ve decided to go ahead and send out my resume, whether the schools have positions posted or not. Many principals wait to post positions until after they’ve already found someone…that way they get more say over who they hire. So I think it’s important to get my name out there before they know they are going to have a position to fill. This Thursday is the last day for staff to break their contracts without penalty, so it’s possible that positions may open up in the next week or so. Everyone please send good vibes my way, because I can’t take this much longer! =)
Other than the stressful job hunt, things are going very well. I’ve arranged to work everyday for the rest of the school year at the after-school program where I work (before I only worked one or two days a week). This is great, because I will be able to make some more cash before the summer hits. I’ll be working at a daycamp for a few weeks out of the summer, but we have out of town weddings and a trip to visit Ryan’s mom in Philadelphia, so I won’t be working a regular job. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get some painting and other work done around the house in my time off. I’d love to have everything freshly painted, repaired, cleaned, and organized when August rolls around,
In wedding news, I finally put down the deposit on the church and the reception hall, and we’ve started making some headway on other decisions like catering and photography. Next week my mom wants us to go try on dresses. My best friend is a fantastic seamstress and she is going to make my dress, but I’m going to try on some things first to make sure that I am choosing the right style. I hope it will be kind of fun. I’m not too girly, and I hate dealing with salespeople, but I’m bringing along a close friend from school who is really girly, and great with dealing with salespeople, so hopefully she’ll help!
Good luck with the dresses….pretty exciting 🙂 I know how it goes with these school positions thats the same place I was at when I was going to go into teaching out of school. I hope a position opens up and you really find your niche as a counselor at a good school.

Have fun trying on dresses!! 🙂 And I think it’s a good idea to send your resume out anywhere and everywhere. It can’t hurt for people to know you are looking or remember you when they have a position to fill. Good luck!!
